The Writing Is on the Wall
I am blessed in many ways to be a writer, and right now, I feel especially privileged to be a writer of sci-fi/dystopian fiction. This has given me a level of insight into crisis survival that many people don’t possess. I am also blessed to be able to volunteer at a local organization that serves the ID/DD community (Intellectual Disability/Developmental Disability - I am an autistic person), working to stock and organize our Food Pantry, where clients come to “shop” for supplemental foodstuffs to stretch their food dollars and eat healthy meals. These two parts of my life have given me an edge, which I feel needs to be shared.

Baa Baa Black Sheep
Europe Norway Farikal is the national dish of Norway. This is a hearty stew prepared with mutton and cabbage and served with boiled potatoes. The simple ingredients of mutton, cabbage, water, salt, and pepper are boiled together to make a favorable broth. When the stew is done, the broth is thickened with flour. Even though this stew can be eaten year-round, it is traditionally a dish served in the autumn.

Plant Based Week 1 is done
Plant Based Diet Week 1 is behind me…. Weight: 301.4 Blood Pressure: 130/95 So this week I’ve been reading Dr. Joel Fuhrman’s The End of Dieting (published 2014). He talks about the Standard American Diet being like an addiction (so does Dr. Neal Bernard). Dr. Fuhrman states that if you are overweight - you are a food addict. And I’ve heard that before. I am sure that I am a food addict and when depressed, stressed or upset - I medicate with horrible foods. I want to quit cold turkey (and that is what I’m trying to do this year), but as he says on page 26, “But it doesn’t work that way. It’s not about will power. There are no shortcuts. Addictions don’t respond to easy answers. You can’t “just say no””. You still have to eat each day.
