These ten facts about fast food will open your eyes to the workings behind the scenes of your favorite quick meal. Everyone has their favorite guilty pleasure meal. And though it's okay to have it every once in a while, will your mind change after learning some of the facts behind the comfort food?

With interesting marketing tactics and gross facts about specific meals (cough, McNuggets, cough) this list has at least one or two facts that will guarantee an eyebrow raise. We won't judge you if you still wind up in the drive-through later, though.

Color schemes are used to increase hunger.

Ever wonder why most fast food restaurants use similar color schemes in their marketing or logos? To begin our list of the most interesting facts about fast food, yellow and red are triggering colors for your appetite.

As a way to brand their companies to exhibit colors that will attract attention as well as stimulation, the color scheme of yellow and red are used to stimulate hunger, as proven by psychology. Plus, yellow is also used to exhibit happiness and friendliness.

Chicken McNuggets have been reported to have melted.

As reported by alhealthwork, Chicken McNuggets were reported to have melted into liquid after being left out. The inside of the chicken nuggets were virtually dissolved, and the nuggets were left with solely their outer, crispy shell.

As one of the most disheartening facts about fast food, this will hopefully make you second guess your choices at McDonald's. Who knows what those nuggets are doing after being ingested.

When ordering a medium, you're really ordering a large.

Fast food restaurants have caught on to the fact that their customers will persistently order the size medium. With this in mind, they altered their sizes. This is typically seen in fountain drink sizing. Their size medium would typically be a size large, but because of the consistent medium ordering, they have changed it.

So if you're looking for a size large, order a medium. If you're looking for a medium, order a small. Trust us, you really don't need 40 to 64 ounces of anything.

Just living near a fast food restaurant increases your chances of weight gain.

Next on our list of the most interesting facts about fast food is a bit disheartening. Simply living within five to ten miles of a fast food chain restaurant will increase your risk of weight gain, even in children.

Fast food restaurants are extremely successful due to their convenience. McDonald's opens a new restaurant within every 15 hours. You can find a Burger King, Taco Bell, or Pizza Hut pretty much anywhere, especially in a populated area.

So, it's very likely that you live five miles from one of these restaurants, and it's even more popular for pregnant women or families to gain weight due to the convenience of the quick and easy meals, typically purchased on the weekends.

The founders of Outback Steakhouse have never vistited Australia.

We bet you didn't know this about Outback Steakhouse. Believe it or not, the founders of the steakhouse have never visited Australia while they were conducting their business plan for the start of their now popular chain of restaurants.

There was a reported trip that was proposed, but was not completed because of the fact that their restaurant wanted to achieve "American food with Australian fun." If that doesn't make you think a little different about the restaurant, we don't know what will.

McDonald's is the largest owner of retail in the world.

If you have seen The Founder, you would know that Ray Kroc, the businessman and founder of McDonald's, used this chain to make money through real estate, rather than from selling food, once he realized the size and success of the company.

As one of the most interesting facts about fast food, McDonald's is not only one of the most popular food chains, but the largest owner of retail in the world. Today, the real-estate company is worth over $30 billion. Not the first thing you'd think of when ordering a Big Mac, but something that Kroc's mind thankfully went to.

Pizza Hut was the first company to deliver a pizza to space.

Pizza Hut was the first company to deliver a pizza to space! A traditional crispy crust, pizza sauce, and cheese to be exact. It was delivered to Yui Usachov in 2001 while he was living on the International Space Station.

The pizza was delivered on a resupply rocket, and set the Guinness World Record. So the next time you're stuck in outer space, Pizza Hut should be your go-to call. However, they might not want to spend the millions of dollars they spent on the rocket launch again. But you never know!

America isn't the top country for fast food eating.

Hong Kong is! Though the United States has a pretty bad rap for their poor choices in food, Hong Kong is the place that eats the most fast food.

As one of the most interesting facts about fast food, this might make Americans feel better, but it really shouldn't. They come in a close second to Hong Kong, and American's food choices are equally as poor.

The obesity rate for American is over 38 percent, and something that the country desperately needs to improve. McDonald's, Subway, Wendy's, and Pizza Hut are certainly not helping our path toward healthier lifestyles.

There are ways to make your fast food choices a bit healthier.

With poor health choices in mind, there are a few opportunities to choose the better of the poor choices available to you. We have all been there: we only have an hour until we have to be somewhere important, but we have to eat.

Number one is to choose the side salad instead of the fries, something you can choose to get with the salad dressing on the side. Also, if you must get a sandwich or burger, try to find a grilled chicken sandwich option.

Though not extremely interesting, these healthy fast food options will make a huge difference if you choose them each time you end up in the drive-through. Also, get a lemonade or water instead of soda. And keep an eye out for healthier full salads; McDonald's has a southwest salad that is only 300 calories, and it's good. Your body will surely thank you.

Jason Mraz is an avocado supplier for Chipotle.

Definitely one of the most obscure and interesting facts about fast food, the American singer-songwriter, Jason Mraz is, in fact, an avocado farmer and supplies for none other than the popular food chain, Chipotle.

Next time you order extra guacamole, you can thank the famous singer. With help from his hundred of avocado trees right on his property, the singer is both an environmentalist and vegan.

However, he said that living on this property rich in avocados was an accident, as his purpose for moving there was solely to be in the root of nature. However, it was a very happy accident for everyone involved, especially guacamole lovers.
