In today's world, it is no longer a valid excuse to say, “I did not know fast food is bad for me”. It is also no secret that fast food giants such as McDonalds, Burger King and Wendy’s to name a few, have been a big part of our lives for the past seventy plus years. These corporations have spent billions if not trillions over that time investing in our hearts, minds and stomachs. As kids we grew to either fear or absolutely love that red white and yellow clown we all knew as Ronald McDonald. The red pigtails of Wendy’s sticking up and her freckles popping out of her cheeks as she welcomed us with her smile. And oh how the kids loved The King.

These were times when the concerns of what we were consuming were more focused on taste and more bang for your buck. Then there was concern for what the food was doing to our bodies in the long run.

Today, with so many health issues such as allergies, cancer, and immune deficiency issues, there has been a huge push to do away with harmful food products. However, with so many Americans dealing with busy lifestyles conflicted with obligations which usually get put before their own health, eating is all too often done in the quickest way possible. Unfortunately the quickest way is often one of our go to childhood favourites.

Thanks to Roushan Christofellis, cofounder of Salad and Go, residents of Arizona can not make the healthier option to a meal when time is of the essence. "We know that so many of those people eating from traditional drive-thru fast food are forced to go there, because they, just like me, needed something convenient and affordable, and that was their only option," she tells Business Insider. With the average price of a salad between $5.74 and $8.23 depending on whether you add chicken, steak, or shrimp, the cost beats out other fast food chains not only in price but in quality. Salad and Go also offers soups, smoothies, and breakfast, which all cost about $4. When asked what enable the company to keep the prices so low while other health outlets charge more, her response was simple; “the drive through”. Between $5.74 and $8.23 depending on whether you add chicken, steak, or shrimp. It also offers soups, smoothies, and breakfast, which all cost about $4. When asked what is it that allows the company to maintain such low prices she mentioned that it was the drive thru design which largely allows the company to keep prices sustainably low.

With six locations already operational in Arizona and another 7 more expected by the end of 2017, it is only a matter of time before a Salad and Go is on a corner near you.
