How to make world tastiest Samosa in INDIAN style

Samosa is a popular Indian snack that is enjoyed by people all over the world. Here is a recipe for making delicious samosas in the Indian style:

Ingredients:

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/4 cup vegetable oil

1/2 tsp carom seeds (ajwain)

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 cup water

3–4 medium-sized potatoes

1/2 cup green peas

1 tbsp vegetable oil

1 tsp cumin seeds

1 tsp coriander powder

1/2 tsp turmeric powder

1/2 tsp red chili powder

Salt to taste

Oil for frying

Instructions:

To make the dough, mix the flour, oil, carom seeds, and salt in a bowl. Add water gradually and knead the mixture into a smooth dough. Cover it with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.

Boil the potatoes and green peas until they are cooked. Drain the water and let them cool. Once cooled, mash the potatoes and peas together.

Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once the seeds crackle, add coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.

Add the mashed potatoes and peas to the pan and mix well. Cook for 2–3 minutes and then turn off the heat.

Take a small ball of dough and roll it out into a circle. Cut it in half to form two semi-circles.

Take one semi-circle and form a cone by overlapping the straight edge with the curved edge. Seal the edge by applying some water.

Fill the cone with 2–3 tablespoons of the potato-peas mixture. Seal the top of the cone by applying some water.

Heat oil in a deep pan. Once the oil is hot, add the samosas and fry them until they turn golden brown.

Serve the samosas hot with mint chutney or tamarind chutney.

Enjoy your delicious Indian-style samosas!

The Origins of Samosas:

The origins of samosas are debated, with some scholars tracing it back to Central Asia, while others believe it was brought to India by traders from the Middle East. One theory suggests that the samosa originated in Persia, where it was known as "sambosa." It was a popular snack among the Persian nobility and was made with minced meat, onions, and spices.

The Evolution of Samosas in India:

Samosas arrived in India during the medieval era, where they were quickly embraced by the local population. The Indian version of samosas was slightly different from the Persian version. Indian samosas were vegetarian, and the filling consisted of potatoes, peas, and spices.

The Mughal Empire, which ruled over India from the 16th to the 19th century, played a significant role in the evolution of the samosa. The Mughals were known for their culinary skills, and they introduced several new dishes, including the kebab, biryani, and samosas. The Mughal emperors would often host lavish feasts, where samosas were served as an appetizer.

Over time, samosas became a popular street food in India, and vendors would sell them in small stalls or pushcarts. In the 20th century, the samosa gained popularity outside of India and spread to other parts of the world, including the Middle East, Africa, and Southeast Asia.

The Different Varieties of Samosas:

Today, there are several different types of samosas, each with their unique fillings and variations. In India, samosas can be found with a wide variety of fillings, such as paneer, chicken, lamb, and even sweet fillings, such as chocolate or banana.

In other parts of the world, samosas have evolved to include local flavors and ingredients. For example, in Africa, samosas are often made with ground beef and spices, while in the Middle East, samosas are made with a spicier filling that includes chili and garlic.

Conclusion:

The samosa is an excellent example of how culinary traditions evolve over time. From its humble origins in Persia to becoming a beloved street food in India and beyond, samosas have come a long way. Today, they are enjoyed by people all over the world, and their popularity continues to grow.
