How To Make Homemade Peanut Butter Cups
An easy guide to making a favorite treat.
If you're like me, you love Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Especially when you put them in the freezer. That first bite into a frozen peanut butter cup is better than, well I'll let you fill in that blank. So last year, I decided I wanted to write a cook book. There is no logical reason for this, in fact it could be argued that I am the last person who should be writing a cook book because I don't follow recipes very well. But I decided to try it anyways, and there were quite a few recipes that I found that I really enjoyed. Most of them I made my own, so I figured that made me something of a chef.
With all that said, there is one recipe that I think stands out from the rest. If you didn't guess, it's one for homemade peanut butter cups. It seemed daunting to someone like me, someone who hates following directions. This recipe was one of those where you had to follow it to the T or else the end result would not be pretty or tasty. When everyone was out for the day, I decided to give it a whirl. They would either come home to a fabulous dessert or find me crying with a vodka bottle in hand. Neither would surprise them.
My first attempt making them was a success! The hard work and the irritation of having to be patient paid off with 12 peanut butter cups that were delicious. It was an instant hit with my clan, one that they keep begging me to replicate but haven't yet. I need to make sure I have a bottle of vodka waiting, just in case things go wrong.
Without further ado, here is the recipe for Ed's Homemade Peanut Butter Cups.
- Chocolate Condensed Milk (Regular works too, chocolate just adds flavor)
- Chocolate Chips (I've used dark, milk, and white chocolate chips)
- Jif Chocolate Whipped Peanut Butter (Regular Peanut butter works too but again flavor.)
Step One: Pour a 12 ounces of chocolate chips into a microwaveable bowl. Add about a tablespoon of condensed milk to the chocolate chips.
Step Two: Microwave the ingredients for about 45 seconds.
Step Three: Take the bowl out and stir the half way melted chocolate. Add more condensed milk to the chocolate.
Step Four: Repeat Step Two.
Step Five: Repeat Step Three. Repeat Steps Two and Three until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth.
Step Six: Put muffin cups in a muffin pan. Gently layer some chocolate into each of the cups.
Step Seven: This is where patience really is needed. Freeze the chocolate cups for about 20 minutes.
Step Eight: Losing patience? I was too. Pull the chocolate cups and see if it has hardened, if not repeat Step Seven. If it has, then add the Whipped Chocolate peanut butter to the cups.
Step Nine: Put the chocolate peanut butter cups back into the freezer for about 20 minutes or as long as it took the cups to freeze the first time.
Step Ten: Pull the chocolate cups out of the freezer and top them with the rest of the chocolate.
Step Eleven: Put them back in the freezer for 20 minutes or as long as it took to freeze the first time.
Step Twelve: Enjoy them, you earned it!
