South Indian Potato Onion Crispy Samosa are a popular street food in Tamil Nadu. The samosa is made from a deep-fried dough filled with potatoes and onions, and is then covered in a crispy batter. A lot of peoples are using maida flour to make samosa but we use atta flour which is healthy.

Normally made with potato or onion but in south India all two items. This crispy samosa recipe is famous in south Indian street tea shops. First, we made samosa sheet and we made samosa masala. Finally, we cook this samosa with the traditional method.

Samosa is a popular Indian appetizer or snack usually served with tea / coffee for any parties. Samosa is a deep fried or baked pastry with a savory filling, such as spiced potatoes or onion. These are really crunchy and the filling makes us really tempting to have more samosas. Though potato based filling is more common type of samosa, still in Southern Indian onion based filling in samosa is very popular.

Prepare Healthy South Indian Potato Onion Crispy Samosa

Ingredients:

For the Samosa Dough:

  • 1 cup All-Purpose Flour
  • 2 tablespoons Ghee or Clarified Butter
  • Salt, to taste

For the Filling:

  • 1 tablespoon Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • 2 Green Chilies, finely chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon Asafoetida
  • 2 medium Potatoes, boiled and mashed
  • 1/2 cup Onion, finely chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Coriander Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Red Chili Powder
  • Salt, to taste

Instructions:

  1. To make the samosa dough: In a bowl, add all-purpose flour, ghee and salt. Mix everything together and knead into a soft dough. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and set aside.
  2. To make the filling: Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add cumin seeds, green chilies and asafoetida. Saute for a few seconds.
  3. Add mashed potatoes and onions. Mix everything together.
  4. Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chili powder and salt. Mix everything together and cook for 5-7 minutes.
  5. Turn off the heat and let the filling cool down completely.
  6. To assemble the samosas: Divide the dough into small equal-sized balls.
  7. Take one ball and roll it into a thin circle using a rolling pin. Cut the circle into two halves.
  8. Take one half and fold it into a cone shape. Seal the edges with a little water.
  9. Fill the cone with the prepared filling.
  10. Seal the edges with a little water.
  11. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry the samosas until golden brown and crispy.

Serve the South Indian Potato Onion Crispy Samosa with chutney or ketchup. Enjoy!
