America’s Top 5 Least Favorite Thanksgiving Dishes

As the holiday season officially begins, the anticipation is so dense that we can almost taste it. Many out-of-town friends and family members are gathered. A large Thanksgiving Day feast cooked by the family. There is a lot of excitement at your house as you prepare the classic Thanksgiving dinner.
Let's face it, everybody's favorite dishes at Thanksgiving dinner are turkey, gravy, and mashed potatoes. However, there will always be foods on the table or buffet that just a select few individuals enjoy. They appear to be ceremonial. Thanksgiving seems to be the one occasion of the year when they appear to be ready. Why bother at.
Crestline.com recently surveyed 2,100 Americans from across the country to discover our favorite and least favorite holiday recipes. In an earlier piece, we spoke about some of our favorite foods. This article will discuss dishes that we can't stand and would rather hand to the person seated next to us without a single scoop.
When I read the poll results, the first thing I noticed was that biscuits were Nevadans' least favorite Thanksgiving dinner entrée. Really? It is equally unexpected as cranberry sauce, which the poll reports are Nevadans' preferred Thanksgiving dinner side dish.
Perhaps if we had slapped some cranberry sauce on top of a sliced biscuit, that might have ended up in the middle of the pack, where they belong. I'm sorry, that's just my wild thoughts.
Nevertheless, my taste definitely aligns with the majority of Americans. I've never liked sweet potatoes or yams, regardless of how they were served, and I'm not a picky eater. 5) Cranberry Sauce
I deffinetly enjoy cranberry sauce. It's not my favorite dish on the Thanksgiving dinner table, but I'll have some. Cranberry Sauce is traditionally served at Thanksgiving because it is a tart and tangy condiment that goes well with the traditional Thanksgiving feast of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and green beans.
I grew up with canned jelly cranberry sauce that Mom would pop out of the can and throw in a bowl. Now I make it from scratch and do an excellent job. When it comes to Cranberry Sauce, simplicity is the key.

Ingredients
- 12 ounces of cranberries
- 1 cup white sugar

Directions
Step 1: Dissolve sugar in the orange juice in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
Step 2: Cook, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries begin to pop, about 10 minutes.
Step 3: Remove from the heat and transfer the sauce to a bowl. As it cools, it will thicken.

4) Brussels Sprouts
Another dinner item I don't mind, especially if it's expertly seasoned. While cooking, maybe toss in some bacon chunks and balsamic vinegar. However, I enjoy vegetables. The majority of people despise Brussels Sprouts. They are really bitter. I understand. I haven't seen them on many Thanksgiving meal tables, though.

- 1 pound of Brussels sprouts
- 4 strips of bacon
- 3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion or shallot
- 2 tablespoons of lemon juice
- Salt, to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Directions
Step 1: Cut the cleaned sprouts in half, then finely slice the halves until all are shredded.
Step 2: Heat the bacon in a large sauté skillet over medium heat. Fry the bacon until it is crisp and browned. Remove the bacon to a plate lined with paper towels to drain; crumble and set aside. Remove about 2 tablespoons of the drippings from the skillet and discard the rest.
Step 3: Cook, stirring occasionally, for 2 to 3 minutes after adding the minced garlic and onion to the skillet. Continue cooking, stirring, until the sprouts are tender.
Step 4 : Combine the lemon juice, salt, and pepper in a mixing bowl. Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly. Toss in the bacon and serve immediately.

3) Sweet Potato and Marshmallow Casserole
Now we're coming to the ones that I always skip over. I know sweet potato fries are a favorite in local restaurants and pubs. They are fiber-rich and nourishing, but I still don't care for them. And any supper item that requires marshmallows to make it taste decent is one I will always pass on to the person seated next to me. Is it time for dinner or dessert?

- 2 1/2 c. mini marshmallows

POTATOES
Step 1: Grease a 13" by 9" baking dish with cooking spray and preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Boil potatoes in a large pot, then reduce the heat to medium-low and cook until they are soft, about 15 minutes. Set aside to cool slightly after draining.
Step 2: Place the potatoes in a large mixing bowl. Stir in the eggs, butter, milk, brown sugar, vanilla, and salt until blended. Pour into the prepared baking dish.
TOPPING AND ASSEMBLY OF STREUSEL
Step 1: Brown sugar, flour, and butter should be combined in a medium mixing bowl until clumps form. Stir in the pecans, then distribute them equally over the potatoes. Finish with marshmallows.
Step 2: Bake the casserole for 30 minutes or until cooked through and the marshmallows are golden brown.
2) Sweet Potato Pie
I enjoy a good pumpkin pie. Some claim that sweet potato pie and pumpkin pie taste similar. Although it appears comparable, I'll take pumpkin pie any day. I saw in the poll that the Southeast was a particularly popular region for sweet potato pie. These states also demonstrate that pumpkin pie is their least preferred Thanksgiving dinner course. It appears to be a regional issue.

- 3 pie shells, thawed
Directions
Step 1: Put the sweet potatoes in a big pot, add enough water to cover them, and bring them to a boil. Simmer for 40 to 50 minutes over medium-low heat until fork-tender. Sweet potatoes should be rinsed, peeled, and mashed in a bowl.
Step 2: Set the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit (220 degrees C).
Step 3: Sweet potatoes should be stirred into the smooth mixture of butter and eggs previously prepared. The sweet potato mixture should be combined with milk, sugar, flour, vanilla extract, nutmeg, baking powder, and lemon juice before being poured into the three pie shells.
Step 4: For 10 minutes, bake in the preheated oven. Reduce the oven's heat to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and bake the pies for 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the pie comes out clean.
Pies should be cooled for 1 to 2 hours after cooling for 15 to 30 minutes at room temperature.
1) Candied Yams
Here it is, then. The Thanksgiving dinner dish that Americans dislike the most. Another root vegetable is being served as some form of dessert. Is it really a meal item if you have to sugar it up? Another dish I'm not going to touch and will pass to the person sitting next to me. What do we do with all the leftover sweet potatoes and candied yams?

Step 2: Place the drained sweet potatoes in a small baking dish. Sprinkle the sweet potatoes with a uniform layer of butter. Add some brown sugar, and a layer of tiny marshmallows.
Step 3: Bake for 25 minutes or until the marshmallows have melted and the sweet potatoes are tender.
