Alcohol is a sophisticated substance that impacts various regions of the brain. The global consumption of alcohol is on the rise, leading to addiction and fatalities. While alcohol can enhance mood, it also leads to issues related to intoxication. It affects all brain neurons and is classified as a substance by some. Drugs are deeply ingrained in human society, with nearly everyone using some form of substance. Although alcohol is widely consumed, it is not openly recognized as a drug, influencing social environments. The worldwide sales of alcohol are increasing rapidly. The beer industry is thriving, offering consumers a wide range of options and expanding their choices. Companies are investing significant amounts in alcohol advertising, utilizing the digital age to reach millions of consumers. Alcohol advertising has a significant impact on children and young individuals. Children are more likely to recognize alcohol brands than brands of ice cream and chocolate, highlighting the prevalence of alcohol advertising. Alcohol advertising often includes messages that objectify women, reinforce gender stereotypes, and occur in unregulated online platforms.

Alcohol affects the brain by inducing a calming effect and releasing neurotransmitters. It acts on the Gaba system, calming the brain and releasing neurotransmitters such as dopamine, endorphins, and potentially serotonin. Excessive intake of alcohol has the potential to hinder the functioning of the glutamate system, resulting in sleep disturbances, anesthesia, and ultimately, respiratory failure. Undoubtedly, alcohol stands as the most detrimental substance, inflicting significant negative consequences upon society. It provides an avenue for individuals to momentarily escape their anxieties and worries, leading to a dangerous dependency and escalated consumption. There exist sixteen distinct manners in which alcohol can inflict harm upon both individuals and society, encompassing physical harm, addiction, and societal issues. The African continent presents itself as a lucrative market for the alcohol industry, particularly the beer sector, which witnesses a staggering 50% higher profit per sale compared to the global average. This market dominance can be attributed to the limited competition faced by global players like Heineken and other major brands. Unfortunately, African countries suffer from high levels of alcohol consumption and detrimental practices. It is disheartening to note that countries like Nigeria and others in Africa lack age restrictions on alcohol consumption. Exploiting myths for financial gain, Heineken and Guinness have resorted to harmful marketing tactics, prioritizing profit over the well-being of individuals. While the alcohol industry acknowledges the dangers associated with excessive alcohol consumption, it attempts to address health concerns by promoting responsible drinking. The alcohol industry is concerned about being portrayed negatively and promotes the idea of consuming alcohol moderately as part of a healthy lifestyle. Initiatives by the alcohol industry are not backed by evidence and tend to prioritize financial gains over public health. The profits of the alcohol industry largely depend on consumers surpassing the recommended alcohol intake limits. Corporate social responsibility efforts by the alcohol industry are not very effective and lack proper evaluation methods, often being used as marketing tactics to safeguard profits. To prevent drug-related issues among adolescents, an initiative was launched in Iceland to provide them with alternative sources of natural highs. The focus was on engaging young individuals in sports activities, which not only helped in their personal development but also delayed the onset of alcohol consumption. It is worth noting that alcohol is not classified as a drug according to the regulations set by the UN and WHO, which has led to certain misconceptions. The classification of substances as drugs is determined by politicians rather than pharmacologists, as seen in the case of heroin and cocaine. The emphasis was on building personal resilience to alcohol through self-improvement and learning healthier coping mechanisms. The ultimate goal was to become stronger individuals who could resist the detrimental effects of alcohol.
