Making just a few simple changes to your diet can help improve your physical and emotional health. Doing so does not require jumping on the latest social media-driven diet fad, driving yourself crazy trying to count every single calorie you ingest, or spending a ton of money on health-conscious meal plans or kits. Making just a few shifts in what you eat and drink can work wonders for leading a happier, healthier life. Here are a few ideas to get you started!

Choose Healthy Fats

“Eat more fat to improve your health” is probably not the first thing you were expecting to hear. However, the reason that many are using Keto-friendly products in their cooking is because eating healthy fats can actually help to potentially reduce cholesterol levels and blood pressure, reduce hunger, lower the risk of heart disease, and other health benefits. Healthy fats include avocado, nuts, seeds, nut butter, olives, olive oil, and more.

Get Going with Green Tea

Organic green tea has the caffeine boost you need in the morning but at a slightly lower level. This means it’ll still help wake you up, but due to not being quite as intense as coffee it may serve to simultaneously lower your anxiety levels and improve your night’s sleep. A few more of the numerous health benefits of drinking green tea is that it gives your body more antioxidants that help to boost your metabolism and energy, and it works to lower your cholesterol and improve circulation. Green tea has also been studied to have anti-inflammatory properties. All in all, not only does green tea taste good, it improves your health. And, the healthier you are, the happier you will feel!

Reduce Gluten Intake

Eating gluten-free used to mean “eating chewy cardboard,” but fortunately there are now a lot of tasty recipes and excellent options available, including delicious options for breakfast and baking. You don’t have to go 100% gluten-free but lowering your gluten intake can do wonders for you. Some of the potential benefits of cutting back on gluten include reduced inflammation and bloating, repairing your gut lining thereby improving your digestion, and increasing your energy levels.

The Wonders of Coconut Oil

While there are studies that definitely suggest that coconut oil can aid with weight loss, incorporating spoonfuls of it into your diet without exercising or making any other changes will not result in the magical shedding of pounds. However, coconut oil can be a very healthy addition that helps you burn fat as it is high in MCTs, which offer several other mental and physical health benefits. Doing something as simple as using coconut oil more often can improve your happiness and health!

Raw Nuts & Seeds

Organic raw nuts and seeds give you fats that are healthy for your heart while being rich in fiber, protein, essential vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and more! One caveat is that to gain all of these benefits you’ll want to make sure you’re choosing raw nuts and seeds vs. roasted, which though not at all unhealthy for you, do lose some of their polyunsaturated fats and decrease the amount of vitamins and antioxidants.

Make Healthy Choices

No single food, drink, or diet will act as a magic wand to increase your health and happiness. The real secret to health and happiness is creating a balance of eating well, exercising, taking care of yourself mentally, and actively making healthy choices.
