The Magical Music of Pogo
One day, I was browsing on YouTube for an entertaining video to watch (as one does when we're bored), when I stumbled upon something beautiful. A mix of sounds and voices from various clips that are turned into music. That is what Pogo does, and he does it beautifully. If you don't know what I'm talking about, here's one of his videos below:
Sarah LoydPublished 5 years ago in BeatNicholas Lurwick and That Wild Southern Blues Sound
Folk Rock and Southern Blues are so closely associated with artists from the 1960s and the 1970s, and even further back than that, such as: Bob Dylan, Credence Clearwater Revival, The Band, Woody Guthrie, Paul Simon, and many more in this field, that sometimes it can be difficult for someone like me to find new music to listen to.

Elton John has become almost as famous with his work on HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention as he has for his music. Elton frequently plays benefits for the cause of AIDS awareness. His AIDS Foundation has raised millions for AIDS research. While the AIDS crisis is today nowhere near the global emergency it was in the 1980s among the gay and blood transfusion communities, Elton has steadfastly remained active in advocacy for AIDS research.

"In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes."— Andy Warhol Today, we live in a world where fame is a hot commodity. It is no longer a question of what people will do to become famous. In reality, the more important question is what won't people do to gain notoriety.

I have been a Pink Floyd fan since one snowy day when a neighbor introduced me to the "Dark Side of the Rainbow" effect. I was greatly amused by the effect of watching The Wizard of Oz with Dark Side of the Moon as the soundtrack; the more important thing, however, was that I instantly fell in love with the album and quickly became a major fan of Pink Floyd's music.

If I had to choose my favorite artist at the moment, I would have no problem telling you it is 27 year old Matthew Tyler Musto, better known as Blackbear. Granted, some of his lyrics are borderline ‘scramble for the volume when elders are present.” but overall the content of his lyrics are incredibly raw and poetic. He has no fear of expressing his feelings, which is refreshing and uses his medium to tell his own story, bit by bit.

Ossiana TepfenhartPublished 6 years ago in Beat #901Spotlight on Stu Stu Studio: Josh Stevens
If you are in Memphis Music, you have probably heard of Josh Stevens. He has been in more bands than most Memphians can name, and is always in the background trying to make the music scene better and more accessible to everyone. I met him at the infamous Buccaneer a few years back, when he played with Indeed We Digress. After that brief encounter, I had a professional falling out with one of our mutual friends, and Josh showed his true colors being there to try and smooth that out. Unlike most people in this industry, he still has a heart. He gives a shit. That is rare. He may sport green hair, have piercings, and his “work attire” is some merchandise from an up-and-coming band, but once you sit down and get him talking, you see quickly he is an innovator.
Virtuosity's NewVMusicPublished 6 years ago in Beat#901Spotlight HotKey Studios: Blake Heimbach
Heimbach, who was one of the original creative inhabitants of Young Avenue Sound with us as we opened up shop, is another one of the ambitious, young professionals we have grown sharing space with. His portfolio contains some of the biggest acts out of Memphis, including YoGotti, Tori WhoDat, and Grace Askew, but his passion for the business and Memphis Music community has led him to want to do something more altruistic. We love the ones who are invested in improving the overall tendency of local artists to succeed.

KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI—To say that Emma Jo’s sophomore album is long overdue is an understatement. She was just 15-years-old when she released her first solo record, Waiting to be Heard. Appropriately titled Brave, her second record is slated for an April 7th, 2018 release, and she couldn’t be more excited.
