World's Not Sleeping on Goody Anymore
It was a little over a year ago when "Why is the World Sleeping On Goody Grace" was written, from three years of following his music since we first featured him on a vlog (Episode 10), and still not seeing him a household name. He has talent to spare as a songwriter, musician, and singer, and frankly an epic smile, which today is refreshing since the world adopted a "nobody cares, resting bitch face" mentality. You just simply want to see the Canadian born, LA native realize his dreams.

My Favorite Artist Pick: Blackbear
If I had to choose my favorite artist at the moment, I would have no problem telling you it is 27 year old Matthew Tyler Musto, better known as Blackbear. Granted, some of his lyrics are borderline ‘scramble for the volume when elders are present.” but overall the content of his lyrics are incredibly raw and poetic. He has no fear of expressing his feelings, which is refreshing and uses his medium to tell his own story, bit by bit.

Op-Ed: Nicki Minaj and Cardi B Beef
I woke up at five something this morning and checked my phone, as per my usual morning routine. What caught my eye is the Twitter moment about Nicki Minaj and Cardi B’s ongoing “beef.” I have a real problem with beefs within the rap community, mostly because it was rumored to be a beef that led to the deaths of Biggie and Tupac. They are useless and a level of petty one grows tired of reading about, seeing, and hearing of.

Memphis Music Legends: Dewey Phillips
In the late 1940s an unassuming young man, straight out of the military, made a move from his hometown Adamsville, TN, to Memphis. The kid with an effervescent southern draw and an in-your-face personality, would almost overnight become the iconoclast of the music world. His keen ear, coupled with his fascination and adoration of what was known as “race music” would change the face of radio and the demographic of listeners forever.

Forever 27 Club
The list of musicians who have died at the age of 27 is daunting. Not in just names of talented individuals, but the fact 27 is considered the beginning of life, yet these lives were cut short, almost as if by a morbid “right-of-passage.” At 27, some of us still haven’t figured out exactly what we are doing with our lives, and for so many amazing musical greats to die at this age is particularly upsetting when you look at the lifespan of famous celebrities overall. What makes 27 the age to survive in the music industry?

Picking a Goodbye
The loss of a loved one and the subsequent funeral planning is one of the most heart wrenching time of one’s life. You are reeling from the pain, shock, and heartbreaking reality of their loss, and you are now in charge of creating the perfect tribute within a budget. When in a funeral director’s office, being emotionally manipulated and subjected to sales tactics you will be hit with ‘the this one is nice, but doesn’t your loved one deserve to be shrouded in luxury for their final resting place…” This is the time when someone should be sitting next to you reminding you this vessel is empty, and your late loved one would probably haunt you if you put yourself in financial straits to wrap them in gold woven robes, and went with the top of the line casket with solid gold accents.

Memphis Music Legends: Don Mann and Memphis Records, LLCTop Story - July 2018
Donald Cameron Mann, the quintessential Renaissance man, who was a quiet force in the changing music business at the turn of the century played a huge role in the Memphis Music Scene, then and now. He lived a full life, while remaining introverted and behind the scenes, and the mark he left on the world tells the story of life well lived and a legacy securely in place. Well read, educated, fearless and altruistic, Mann was the type of human being we all strive to be or should desire to be.

It's Okay to Admit You like Rap, Karen
I used to be a rarity. The oldest female in the audience of a show, and actually singing the lyrics, not just accompanying my underage daughter. I had come a long way from my late husband blaring Birdman and me nervously turning the volume dial down before someone looked over in disdain. I no longer felt the need to hide the fact I preferred Tupac, Biggie, and WuTang with my latte rather than Brantley Gilbert, Florida Georgia Line, or Andy Grammar. Times have changed.
