Why Wings Is Important
It’s official. Everyone still loves Paul McCartney. He made headlines once again after surprisingly being a part of Carpool Karaoke with James Corden. The pair spent nearly six hours driving through McCartney’s hometown of Liverpool, England and sing Beatles songs to their hearts' content. Not only did that epic appearance make waves, but he also released two new songs with the promise of an album later this year.

Jack Corky CorcoranPublished 6 years ago in BeatThe Band Tragedy Could Not Silence
The Bar-Kays are one of the most prolific and resilient groups of musicians, past and present. They began their illustrious careers fresh out of high school in Memphis, TN, and found success very early on. That success came with several tragedies, but the band always survived, in spite of them. While researching the backstory for this blog, I learned just how many tragedies would befall the group throughout the years, and how strong it had made them. I also learned of their overwhelming success.

During a conversation on Facebook a couple of years ago, my friend mentioned that his adult brother had come down to visit. Apparently he was a fan of the same music that I was, particularly Bring Me The Horizon. This should've been brilliant. I had someone else to bond over one of my favourite bands with. Well, once I had passed 'the test'.

Once again, Bobo’s Cafe held sway over Saturday Night in Somers, New York. Jack Chase brought back the 40s and 50s at the mic and allowed seniors who weathered the day’s heat to relax the night away.
Rich MonettiPublished 6 years ago in BeatA Playlist for When You Feel Empty
Do you ever get that feeling of emptiness in you, that feeling when you just lie down and stare blankly at the walls and do absolutely nothing for hours on end? Well, I’ve made a playlist for it. Here’s a combination of my top songs for when you feel nothing and everything all at once, a playlist for when your emotions are all over the place. You’ll probably recognize some from movie and TV show soundtracks, or maybe you’re just a fan of some of these artists!
Memphis' Pride and Joy: Brennan Villines
I was in the middle of working on a blog I had been researching for over a week, and something happened which made me abandon it immediately and change course. Scrolling through social media two days ago, I ran across a post from one of my former Young Avenue Sound neighbors. If you have read any of my previous work, you know well the fondness I have for this place and its inhabitants. I am the self-proclaimed “studio mom” as I am a few years older, and already hold the maternal role for four other humans (five if you count my dad who will get into more trouble than the kids). I moved in years ago, following the death of my husband, and while most of them have known each other for many years, I was a newcomer. They welcomed me like an old friend. Needless to say, it is like a home to me.

The 1980s were a time when the music scene was primarily dominated by a misogynistic and masculine aesthetic and sound, an issue that was merely the spark to the Feminist bonfire that would slowly start to consume the industry for the next couple decades. The short-lived, but forever inspirational “Riot Grrrl” scene was ground zero. Not everyone knows what Riot Grrrl is, not even all punk enthusiasts know, but I personally believe that Riot Grrrl was a major part of the influential decade that was the 90s. It was the most important Feminist movement in music history.

5. 'High As Hope' by Florence + the Machine This album just came out a few days ago, and I instantly fell in love with it from the first listen. After a 3-year hiatus, Florence Welch couldn't have made a better comeback than this. In this album, themes of loneliness and personal struggles are very prominent. However, what conquers all of the sadness that's in this album is hope. The songs in the album talk about a range of topics including holding on to people and her sister Grace.
