Why Is Pop Music So Sh*t These Days?
We've all thought it though, haven't we? Every time you put the radio on, you know exactly what to expect, even if you don't know any of the songs. It's always the same sh*t.Okay so let’s say it’s 1998, would I be writing this same article about boy bands, Queen and Michael Jackson? It’s a possibility. Except that, dare I say it, the charts in the nineties (East 17 and Robbie Williams included, I guess) actually had at a little bit of depth to them. Even cheesy pop-music was distinct and rich in musical texture and diversity.

Virtuosity's NewVMusicPublished 6 years ago in BeatHarry Styles: Live On Tour
I recently attended Harry Styles' concert at Madison Square Garden. To most people when you hear Harry Styles, you think of an ex boy band member that all teenage girls obsess over. While that is not wrong, he is so much more then that. Harry Styles is an idol to me and many others. He uses his platform for great things, and has changed so much of the way I think and hear music. I was never a big fan of One Direction, I liked some of their music but never went to their concerts or anything. I do regret that now. Harry is different to me. I don't see him as a boy band member, I see him as a loving person who wants to impact the world and I applaud him for that. When Harry's album dropped last year, I could not get tickets to his sold out Radio City show but was lucky enough to get two tickets to his second sold out night at Madison Square Garden. I scored them both for $150 right next to b stage. I personally was so happy I was able to get tickets and waited so long for the concert but it was all worth the wait. When Harry released his first solo single "Sign Of The Times," I immediately fell in love with everything about it. It was so much of what I craved in this pop filled music industry and the lyrics meant so much to me. When Harry released his album that I anticipated so much it was so much of what I wanted and more. From then on, I was a full time Harry Styles fan.

I heard a new song by Paul McCartney earlier today on Sirius XM's The Beatles Channel—"Come On to Me"—and liked it enough that I just listened to it again on iHeart Radio, along with another new McCartney song, "I Don't Know," which I like even more. You can hear both along with the videos and lyrics over here.
Paul LevinsonPublished 6 years ago in BeatFlorence Takes Flight: 'High As Hope' Review
Lungs. Ceremonials. How Big How Blue How Beautiful. After releasing three intensely dramatic and cathartic records, it is no surprise that Florence Welch "thought [she] ran on a chaos engine." However, the delicate High As Hope is altogether a different beast. Soulful, surprising, and serene, Florence + The Machine's fourth offering sees lead singer Welch renounce alcohol and reflect, becoming more angelic than ever.

Jimi Hendrix: The God Himself
The Life of Jimi Hendrix Jimi Hendrix was born on November 27th, 1942 in Seattle, Washington. Hendrix was born to parents, Lucille Jeter and Allen Hendrix, both of whom were of African American and Cherokee descent. During WWII, Allen was drafted to serve in the US Army but was forced to leave for basic training before Jimi was born. During the first three years of Jimi’s life, his father was not afforded the right to see his son, as a result, Lucille was forced to raise their son alone, with the help of friends and family. In his youth, Jimi Hendrix was a shy boy and was often left to care for his younger brother Leon while both were in and out of foster care. In 1958, Lucille died from liver disease and his father refused to take Jimi and Leon to the funeral, instead, Allen gave them shots of whiskey and told them that this is how men deal with their problems. This moment had a great impact on Hendrix, who carried these scars for the rest of his life.

K-pop. I’m sure you’ve heard of it. If you’ve ever wondered how music from such a small country can become so popular worldwide, and even take the #1 spots on America’s and even other countries’ music charts, here’s why.
Zachary BarnettPublished 6 years ago in Beat5 Things I've Learnt About Writing Music
I have been involved in the process of writing music for only a few years now and have learnt in that time to fully appreciate how difficult it can be to write something that reflects you and how to make a song that people will like. Writing music can be one of the most difficult things you’ll ever do. You are battling yourself and your own creativity to craft something that never existed before you began. It is also one of the most rewarding experiences you can have. It is with this in mind that I have decided to share some key lessons I have learnt along the way to get the best out of my abilities.

Peter CarriveauPublished 6 years ago in BeatThe 'List: 4th of July
Hello one and all. Barbecues, fireworks, beaches, picnics, blasting really good music, family and friends having fun - all mainstays of Independence Day; the holiday we celebrate every July 4th. How this holiday came about of course, was when the Declaration of Independence was signed by our founding fathers in the year of 1776.
