My own version of Mom Life
The kids screaming as they play and run around the house, laundry and dishes piling up, the dogs looking at me, wondering when I will pay attention to them, lunch needs to be made, and I won’t even get started on all the various “projects” I have started and have not finished yet. These projects range from reorganizing all the closets and old clothes to my business products that need to be shipped out. Before I became a mother, I was organized, the entire house immaculately clean, and I was extremely ambitious but did not accomplish much. Now, as a wife and a mother of two, I feel as though I live in an organized chaotic universe and I accomplish more now than I did before when I only had to take care of me.

Life choices
Which is better? I have been going back and forth about returning to an Apple iPhone, get the Apple watch, an iPad and a MacBook pro. I currently have a Samsung Galaxy Note 10, which I love. I love my pink, gold, and white phone case and the pen or should I say stylus that comes with it. I do everything on my phone. Checking social media. Running my business and managing orders. I am creating collages from the photos I take and even found an app to draw so that I can make my designs for my business. When it concerns any of the gaming apps. . .I usually pick ones where I am getting rewarded points towards Amazon or PayPal. As for tablets, I currently use my Kindle and that is just to read my digital books. My laptop is not a Samsung, but a Dell. It does its job. All my other electronics are Samsung: tv, washer, dryer, microwave, refrigerator, stove, and yes, the dishwasher too.

To Mom: I’ve learned a lot (and I am still learning!)
Filipino and Black. My mom is Filipino and my dad is Black. Growing up with a mixed background was challenging but rewarding. It’s the foundation of who I am and I have my mom to thank for the many things that I’ve learned in my 37 years of life. I’m writing this article as one way to thank you mom! I’ve learned so much but here are the top 10 things I’ve learned and I’m still learning:

Bambola Merlot
My name is Merlot Chen. Yeah, I know. What parent names their kid Merlot?! Apparently, my Chinese father and French mother, that’s who. All my life, I wished I had a middle name that I could have used instead, but no, I’m just Merlot Chen. I would even take the nickname my dad calls me: “Little Blackbird” over my real name. I have midnight black hair and dark brown eyes, so it makes sense. Do you know how difficult it is to date with a name like Merlot? Speed dating with name tags are the worst! I can thank my best friend, Mina Whitmore for that experience. She begged that I go with her and the famous pick up line is still burned into my memory. . .
