Heartbreak to Healing Soundtrack
I didn’t listen to music for pleasure for a long time at the beginning of this year, until I had something to smile about when I finally got back into my studio apartment with room to myself… to decorate, ponder, and think. About what my next step would be. My next move towards whatever life had planned for me. What would my job be? I had to figure it out. I didn’t know what to do next. On top of that, I was overwhelmed about it and didn’t know how to explain that to the person I was seeing. I sensed that we were both growing apart even though we had only started seeing each other again for a month or so. What was wrong? He wouldn’t tell me… He just started ghosting me. Like not answering me for days at a time. I started surfing through Youtube songs and found some new hits from my all time favorite male artist Chris Breezy. And ‘Overtime’ kicked in. Had it on repeat for like 2 weeks straight. As I was getting used to the town I was in, I was taking walks and listening to it back and forth from my apartment for hours at a time. I went through tons of songs that brought me joy and made me feel powerful again. Songs like, ‘She rockin that Thang’ by The Dream. Overtime though. Got me hooked because I had seen choreoghraphy to it by EXPG Studio… which I planned in my mind to hit as soon as I got back on track with my ideal weight. ‘He don’t deserve your time. I been on the bench a while. Let me do you better’ Is what I thought he was saying. But the lyrics really are ‘ Put him on the bench a while. Let me do you better’. Okay, so a few weeks. I got the opportunity to meet someone who really wanted to give me their time. I was surprised that we really hit it off, actually clicking after just one day of meeting in line and a short bus ride to a transportation center. But we didn’t exactly get to spend more one on one time after that. Things just got in the way even though we kept planning to. But on the phone… it was like.. really nice. A breath of fresh air. I was really enjoying this. So fast forward to me getting ready to pack out and leave to live in another city. I was busy working on a project and I wasn’t listening as much again. I actually didn’t start again until I after an emergency. I mean I was in a good mood just wanting to hear some of my classic new jams I had heard at my last job. How could I forget when I first heard ‘Dangerous’ on my way home at midnight. ‘You ain’t no angel but you got a halo…That’s what it’s like loving you’. It wasn’t the person I had recent’y met though. No, I had gone back to the joker again. But only because I knew him longer. We had gone out at least 5 times over a two year span. I did have some feelings for him. But he was always just feeling his way through. Never really being concrete about what we were doing. But this time I really got carried away. I mean when you think about what you feel and want … it sucks when its just you thinking that… I found out that the guy doesn’t even feel the same way…. So I stopped listening again.

What Else Can We Possibly Watch?
+From the 90's Brandy Norwood, need I say more? Okay, in context, I'm talking about teenaged Brandy (R&B singer) when she starred in the hit show Moesha, as an independent socialite with lots of thriving relationships - including that of her friend Hakeem, coffee shop owner Andell, girlfriends Neicey and Kim, and boyfriend Q. Not to mention the backing of her family with the loving mother and father and cute little brother. Moesha had 6 seasons, and I only saw a few of them because of my stint as a military brat living overseas and limited access to cable, but they were memorable. Memorable for me because of the attractive people and personalities that made the storylines so great. Though the show marked its significance through the passing of three casted members, Lamont Bentley, Fredro Starr, and Yvette Wilson, Brandy announced on The Real in 2019 that there will be a rebooting of the show. Yay for fans like me! Episodes can be viewed on streaming services like Disney Plus, and Starz. If you like an upbeat, wittty, controversial yet respectable hip-hop style-like sitcom, this one is for you.

2 Good Indian Buffets in South Jersey
Not that I'm a fan of buffets, but I stumbled across one one day that left me quite a pleasant surprise. I knew I liked curry but I didn't know all the different ways I would like it, and this place proved to me that I could have it any way I want. Not getting beside myself, but the way these curry-like dishes tasted left me speechless. There were so many different flavors like tomato, coconut vegetable, and creamy spinach. Best of all, they had them right next to each other with their native names out front so you know what to look for when you go back or elsewhere. No, best of all was the price. You could get all this for less than $14 at the lunch hour with the drink included. Desserts were a taste too but I'm not a huge fan of pudding. I did go for the milk and cheese balls dipped in syrup at Palace of Asia in Maple Shade though. It's called Gulab Jamun, and it tasted heavenly. The first restaurant I was referring to is Coriander, located in Voorhees, New Jersey. Both menus of these places complement each other and are worth checking out.

Sprouted Grain Bread is Legit
Bread is not something I should be consuming on a daily basis given my health and weight loss goals, however, I found a sure-fire healthier way to enjoy it so that it doesn't interfere. Sprouted grain bread was introduced to me through Food Babe, Vani Hari (an activist), and she describes it as a vegetable because it's basically a plant that grows from a grain when soaked in water. That plant is then ground into bread. This is supposed to be the healthiest type of bread to consume because it doesn't give you the insulin spike that refined flour doughs do, even the rich, darkened ones, due to the breakdown of starch that occurs during the process. Thus, it doesn't make you gain. Angelic Bakehouse, Food for Life, and Dave's Killer Bread are convenient ones to purchase at stores. From my experience, Dave's Killer Bread tastes better than the knockoff healthy brands like Pepperidge Farm. I haven't yet tried Angelic Bakehouse, but Food for Life offers a variety of types of bread like English muffins and tortillas. Their Ezekiel Bread has to be kept frozen and does come in a cinnamon raisin version. At any case, I was grateful to come across Vani's book the Food Babe Way that highlights so many flaws in our American food system and methods to navigate them and overcome our greatest health concerns. It made me a more informed eater.

7 Food Apps that will Pay You During This Pandemic
Let's face it. An extra couple of dollars wouldn't hurt anyone at this point in time, especially since jobs are becoming more scarce by the day. If you're not an essential worker, you basically have to come up with a way to provide for yourself on your own until conditions get better. If you don't have the assistance of employer benefits like administrative leave or paid time off, or even governmental unemployment, this could really be a hard time for you. The good news is that all is not lost, and chances are, if you were making money regularly before this pandemic, you can continue without any significant interruption if you get on the ball now. Here are some apps you can download to start earning some extra cash to cover expenses:

Make $40 a day as a Healthy Person
Now I know what you may be thinking. What do you mean by healthy, and not only that... what do I have to do? The term healthy here is slightly subjective in nature, because everyone has something going on with them and no one is perfect. However, you can pass a qualification screening if you don't take certain medications (or substances) and you don't have failing organs. So there, that's the baseline of qualifying as a healthy individual to donate plasma, but it doesn't stop there. If you don't have any open cuts on your body, haven't received any new piercings or tattoos, became pregnant, or visited any foreign countries, you're not at risk to recipients who may need your plasma for medical therapy. That's right, I said plasma. Not blood, though it is similar to giving blood, except that you recover quicker and can donate more frequently. Plasma is the clear part of your blood that contains mostly water, and other important components

The Healthcare Job that Nobody Talks About
Desiring a job in the medical field led me down an arduous path. I tried out for dental school after college and didn't quite make it. I then followed down the nursing path, and didn't feel that was a good fit either. A few years and conversations later after countless research on other allied health careers, I found myself linking up with a field that served me in more ways than I could count. I mean I finally got the hospital job I wanted that fit my technical wit and personality, sort of. Have you ever heard of sterile processing? It’s a department in the hospital that sanitizes the instruments needed to take care of people, especially those in surgery. Little did I know that this department is the heart of the hospital, and a well-oiled machine. Not only do you need the technical know-how to accurately and safely clean instruments, but you also need the interpersonal skill to work with the people in your department who help you do that. Because the department is split into many sections, it takes teamwork to make it all come together. You need to know all the surgical instruments which can be learned through flashcards. And then you need to learn all the sterilizers and cycles that they process. You learn the function of each section of the department by reading manuals that you can find online through a certification program. I did mine through The Sterile Processing University, over a two month period, for $800. This was the most cost-effective method for me, but a better chance at getting hired in a hospital is through a school that will give you hands-on experience. One I recommend is Asceptic Technical Solutions in the Greater Philadelphia area because my former boss owns the school, but there are others that are just as good.

Why Fasting is the Quickest Way to Drop Pounds
I speak of this because I know the journey of weight gain, weight loss and everything in between. Cravings being at the core. As a technically obese person now, I speak firsthand about the success I have had from fasting. There have been 3 times in my life that I have lost significant weight from basically lowering my intake of food/calories. In short, all I was doing was fasting. You can call it OMAD or intermittent, but these methods allowed me to get out of the overweight category as a 12 year old in a month and a half time frame (losing 30 lbs). Into my ideal range at the age of 23 (60lbs), and on my way back there now at 32. The significance of me going through it now is that I have recognized my patterns and what I fail at and what has worked. In short, when I don't eat for a day, I lose two pounds by the next morning. If I do OMAD (one meal a day), I can lose 1 pound by the next morning or two if I don't overdo it and eat exceptionally light (like vegetables and a low carb). Keeping it up over time will allow me to reach my goal weight in a few months time frame if I can minimize my stress and navigate social food setbacks like seeing a treat on the kitchen table and avoiding big dinners. Taking in liquids that revive me like fresh water and mineral salts, celery juice, coconut water, or maybe coffee keep me in a steady and satisfied state. I am convinced that this works. I have lost 22 pounds so far in a month and a half and I feel great. The fasting has kept my cravings at bay, which in turn has kept me in a positive mental state. I'm not spiralling, yo-yoing back and forth, though I do think that learning about yourself is the greatest gain from that experience. Yes, fasting is the way for me, and it could be for you. Not for just losing weight but just for the mental clarity. It's a journey though, so be prepared for the long haul.
