My Apocalypse Dream Team
A popular game played in prepping groups is, if you could create a team of fictional characters to go into the apocalypse with whom would you pick, and why? This is my list of team players. I chose to not use characters from popular doomsday shows, like The Walking Dead and Fallen Skies, because they already proved they are strong enough to survive a doomsday situation.

The Paper Bag
The paper bag is a shopping icon. consumers use 20% of the paper bags manufactured to carry bought goods in. Every year, they cut fourteen million trees down to produce the demand retailers have for the ten billion bags that are used. Each bag costs the store four cents to produce. They may take more energy and resources to make than plastic, but at least the resources are renewable and they can biodegrade faster than plastic. Here are some useful doomsday uses for those extra bags.

How To Make
Meals Ready to Eat, or MRE, is a total self-contained complete meal that withstands rough conditions and exposure to the elements. They are the primary main operational food ration for the US Military. Each MRE contains on average 1,250 calories, 13% protein, 36% fat, 51% of carbohydrates, and a third of the average adult’s daily recommended allotment of vitamins and minerals. Someone can safely consume everything inside of it cold, but they contain a flameless ration heater that can warm it up, making them taste better. To make an MRE at home, you’ll need a vacuum sealer, permanent marker, food-grade Mylar bags both large and small, and food to put in it.

You're Gonna Need A Bigger Boat
Surf’s up! July 14th is Shark Attack Awareness Day. According to a recent report done in 2021, sharks have bitten 112 people, resulting in six deaths. On average, 6-8 people die a year in shark attacks. Despite sharks being portrayed as evil flesh-eating monsters, many try to avoid people as best as they can. Here are some tips for the next time you go to the beach and have a confrontation with nature’s oldest living water creature.

Doomsday Shopping
Photos courtesy of Variety Depot in Lima, Ohio. Ohio’s number one military surplus store. Military surplus stores are a treasure trove for a prepper. These stores sell many goods used primarily by the military that they no longer need. The condition of such items can range from brand new to badly damaged. Shop owners buy these goods at auction and flip them for a profit, often providing them to the public at discount rates. Even though you are getting them for cheap, that doesn’t mean they built it at that level. Military goods are often over-engineered to ensure the user will get them to work in the most extreme situations. Here are some tips to make the most out of your trip to your local surplus store.

Going Solo
Being a ‘Lone Wolf’ is a common prepping strategy among beginners. Every seasoned prepper knows at least one person who plans to use this method to survive. A ‘Lone Wolf’ is a solitary person who plans to thrive in the apocalypse alone and lives off of the resources they have collected by themselves. There is no set number of how many people plan to use this strategy, but it is a very popular trend in the Doomsday Community. Here are some pros and cons if you decide to be a ‘Lone Wolf’.

Legend Of The Brinkmire Cabin
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. Judy figured the candle would add to the creepy ambiance the cabin already had. Her other friend, Jean, was unrolling her sleeping bag. Jean had just moved to town a few months ago and wanted to see if the Legend Of The Brinkmire Cabin was true.

Happy 4th of July! Yesterday we celebrated the day America won its independence from England in 1776. On that day, Charles Thompson and John Hancock were the first to sign the famous document, the Declaration of Independence, which led to the beginning of the Revolutionary War that would pave the way for America’s freedom. The United States has 331 million citizens and is growing every day. The 4th of July is a national celebration with parades and fabulous food. Here are some ways to take advantage of the sales for your prepping needs.

Surviving The Next Big Bang
Millions of meteors travel through Earth’s atmosphere each day. Many are so small they burn up before hitting us, the select few that have can leave a lasting impact on our lives and also our landscape. A meteor is a solid piece of debris made from stone, iron, or both that has come from outer space. We may not experience a meteor the size that took out the dinosaurs, but it is not 100% out of the realm of possibilities. You have a one in 250 million chance of being killed by a meteor strike. For National Meteor Watch Day, I thought it would be a good time to discuss what to do in the event of a meteor strike.

Breaking Bad
Everyone has at least one bad habit in their life. Over the last two years, because of COVID, there has been a 61% increase in people developing at least one to cope with the “Pandemic Stress”. People develop such habits as a coping mechanism to handle the increased levels of anxiety being put into their lives. Some are harmless like drinking a glass of celery juice in the morning, to more harmful ones like drug use. These are the ‘Top Five’ habits keeping you from your doomsday planning goals.

Doomsday Paperwork
This is the most boring part of getting disaster-ready. Most people often skip this step because it’s not as fun as putting together a food rotation. 32% of preppers do not have a disaster plan in place. Your disaster plan is your family’s road map to any crisis and should cover all potential disasters known in your area. It lays out who does what and where you are supposed to go when evacuating. Here are some tips can use to speed up this task.
