Chapter 1 – A Dream is Just a Dream How can you tell the difference between a dream and reality? The feeling I have in my dreams feels no different than if I was awake. Again, how does a person know when they have woken from a dream? The emotions, the physical elements, they diminish when I finally kick myself awake from the dream. But damn, the lingering feeling in my dreams cannot be completely shaken off!

Simple Words
Life is filled with those small moments that are life changing, eye opening, turning points, or life altering although you may not realize it at the time. It is amazing that such small moments can have such monumental and long-lasting impacts on our paths. My memoir is based on a particular moment that I reflect on often as this wonderful journey of life has brought me to this very moment to share a very personal memory.

You Are My Soul
I knew I loved her the moment I saw her. Well, if I’m completely truthful I did not exactly see her face but smelled her perfume as she walked by me in the hospital. I saw her silhouette, dressed professionally and highly manicured. I understood immediately that she was in sales, we see them all the time in the hospital. They come with their fancy rolling travel bags trying to sell the latest medical devices or the recent pharmaceuticals that ensure healing, minus a few side effects.

A Victorian Mirror
Part I The mirror showed a reflection that wasn't my own. I jumped damn near out of my skin! I fell over the old wooden chair that once held its former tenant in front if this old Victorian style mirror. This old chair would not survive another bump like the one I just gave it, but it will hold for now. Why the chair seemed to matter at all while madness flashed in the reflection might be me holding on to a thin strand of sanity. We will get back to this part of the story.

Walls Unit
If these wall could talk…if these walls could talk…if these walls could talk. For so many years I have watched, I have listened. I listened to the horrors in that echo within these walls. The units above and below that lead to death row, yes I have heard the screams, the cries for mom, the prayers to God, all to no avail. I see the atrocities, I hear the madness, I feel the sadness and pain. This is its own form of hell, but I live through the short lives of these men and women, and I believe I learn something from each person that walks down this hall.
