Let Children be Children
As a child, we all loved to watch cartoons and shows geared to children. Usually around the age of 5, we become aware of the other message these shows relay. A message that may or may not be intentional by the writers, but nonetheless an important message. Romance is between a man and a woman; boy and girl, whether it is a TV show or movie. As a child, we accepted the terms. We understood it was normal for a boy to fall in love with a girl or vice versa. These shows would support the idea by occasionally displaying a kiss scene with two characters of opposite genders, or families with both a mother and a father. When reality meets with media examples, it validated relationships. Additionally, parents and family members begin joking about having a boyfriend/girlfriend. Eventually, friends would too. Everyone waits for the day when the child matures, and announces their love interest to someone of the opposite gender. This is the norm. It is what most people expect and want for their child. It has been the norm before television and motion pictures were introduced. The media has only reinforced this ideology.

The Last Weekend at HomeTop Story - April 2023
The mirror showed a reflection that wasn't my own. I should have noticed it earlier, but I was too obsessed with my own dashing looks to even consider it. If I had not been so fixated on my chestnut colored hair, dreamy chai colored eyes, and strong European features, I may have been able to stop what eventually overtook my life. I may have been able to avoid being chained to a reality that mirrored what I had grown up in. If only…

The Bear Witness of Climate ChangeTop Story - March 2023
The congressional environmental committee had been engaged in deep debate over climate change; the democrats were determined to lower America’s dependency on fossil fuels, while the republicans insisted on their Trumpian position to protect the use of coal and oil. Suddenly the lockdown alarms blared wildly throughout the building. The senators waited patiently for an announcement through the PA system on what the possible threat is, but the intercom produced static in response. The committee fell into a wordless atmosphere with fear replacing the heat of the debate. No one dared to speak.

Student Debt Relief?
On February 28, 2023 the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) heard cases regarding President Biden’s student loan relief plan. On August 24, 2022 it was announced that student loan borrowers from low and middle class would have $10,000 of their loan forgiven ($20,000 for Pell Grant recipients). Biden had used the HEROES ACT to support the proclamation. Once the plan was announced, opposition immediately rose and two prominent cases stood out and progressed up to the Supreme Court to be heard. Presently, millions of Americans are awaiting the decision of the SCOTUS to determine if they will receive the much needed relief.

The Controversial History Debate
America has a dark history. Any scholar of the past would most likely agree with how the country came to be. Of course, the hard fought battle against Britain may be reason to celebrate the birth of the nation because it quickly became one of the most influential countries on the planet. However, it still remains a country built on stolen land and prospered off the backs of enslaved souls.

Within the Cocoon
If walls could talk…that is the common phrase I hear all the time. I should know, I am a wall. I have seen many families reside within the room I have been watching for decades. Presently, it’s quiet, but I prefer there to be life. I enjoy observing the humans live their daily lives. Most seem to follow the same social pattern. However, there has been one particular case I have found to be intriguing. And this is the story, when I was able to witness an extraordinary transformation.

Tropical Lost Love
Melanie sat at her desk in her dorm room. She had just returned from her trip to Hawaii, where she spent a week of beach, sunshine, and an unsuspecting encounter. She wanted to return to the islands, but to save up for the journey would take months. As she brushed her brown wavy hair back behind her ear, she stared at a small puka shell that sat on her desk. A tear glistened in the corner of one of her brown eyes as she reminisced the meaning behind the shell.

Dreaming of a Dark ChristmasTop Story - December 2022
Merry Dark Christmas! ‘Tis the season for machine guns, twisted murders, and the Grin- (the Mean One). While most of the world at this time of the year sits to enjoy family, eggnog, and heart warming films such as A Christmas Story, It’s a Wonderful Life, and more, there is always a small minority of people who look to alternative films to kick off the holiday season. Fortunately, I am one of those people who are always dreaming of a dark Christmas.

Trapped in a Box
Jen hated being a girl. She detested dresses and had no interest in typical female toys. Most importantly, she longed to shed the stench of femininity off of her. Unfortunately, she was the daughter her mother dreamed of having. Her mother constantly dressed her according to the female fashion police. She would send Jen to elementary school like a little princess, but Jen would return resembling an orphan from the musical Annie.

The Truth About the Trans-Agenda
With the Halloween season finally coming to an end, America must now prepare for the scariest season of all: Midterm Elections. The Republicans still celebrating their victory of abortion bans and the power to control over half the population on what they are allowed to do with their bodies, have continue to set the sights on the next target. Trans-rights. The reason behind the urgency to put a dead halt on Americans (particularly children) right to live authentically is to clash with the alleged “Trans-Agenda.” What is this “Trans-Agenda?”
