Unlocking My Love
Welcome back! In the last entry, I had a taste of freelance creative writing, but spat it out because I had lacked the will to acquire the refine flavor of writing. It took a little over half a decade to develop a passion for the craft. During my senior year of high school, I knew I wanted to be a creative, freelance writer with the dream of publishing a novel.

Unlocking My Love
My very first writing piece started when I was in fifth grade. Prior to writing it, I never thought I wanted to become a writer. Not many elementary school kids think, “I enjoy writing, I want to make a hobby out of it!” I was no exception. Why would I want to spend my time doing the one activity I disliked the most in school? I mean, we were always forced to write book report, narratives, essays, and more. However, what did separate me from my peers was my insatiable love for reading.

Cinderella’s Secret
“Cinderella, why are there still rats roaming around the house? I thought I told you to take care of them,” screeched Ester, throwing a stern gaze at several gray rats, which scurried into hiding as the light disturbed the dark sanctuary of the closet. It’s their chance to finally connect with an aristocrat. I would love it if one of my beautiful daughters could marry a rich politician, or even a business owner. It would mean more money for the family.”

Some will insist her existence is to instill empowerment in young girls, and encourage them to dream of becoming anything they want. Others continue to consider her impossible physical features and overpriced accessories, as a fashion-driven airhead.

To the Fourth
Happy Independence Day, America! Today is a day when we declared to become our own country with the promise to be a land of the free. Home of opportunity for anyone. A country to show what freedom looks like and model democracy. Though I want to celebrate this glorious moment, I find myself hesitating; wondering just how free Americans really are.

We Didn’t Start the Fire
On Wednesday, June 28, 2023, Fall Out Boy released a cover of Billy Joel’s We Didn’t Start the Fire, and as a Gen-X adult, it has become one of my favorite songs! From the first word of the lyrics, it strikes your heart with an emotional arrow, and pushes you to the edge of tears as you listen to it.

The Value of Vocal+
Welcome Vocalites (a term I recently discovered) and other readers. A quick glance at my profile page will show that I have been with Vocal Media for 2 years. Joining Vocal was not an easy decision, and some of you may be wondering: is it worth becoming Vocal+ member?
