Emma's Word of the Day
This is my fifth "Emma's Word of the Day" on Vocal. Though for many years I have done a "Word of the Day" on my Facebook account, as I am a word geek. When I was 7 years old, I had the longest spelling list of any Year 2 student in my school. Still to this day, if I come across a word I don't know, I will stop reading to look up the new word to see what it means. To see if there is a way I could be using that word. Even with my very large vocabulary I still find words that are new and they make me excited. Words have power, magic and they help us understand the world we live in, thus why they hold so much sway for me.

Say his name
This is my first story outside of poets and is deeply personal to me. It was written recently in a response to the writing prompt 'anniversary'. It is about my beautiful son, James. He was with us for all too short a time but has left indelible marks not only on mine and his father's lives but many others as well. James is who made me a mother, even though I don't get to watch him grow up, and he is still a source of inspiration for me, in my art, my poetry, and my life. Whenever I see a butterfly, I know James is there, sending me love and watching over me.
