Christmas is not something you buy in a store
In December of 1966 children everywhere and their parents were introduced to the animated television version of the popular Dr. Seuss book “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” Those who have enjoyed this classic for over 5 decades know that Christmas came in spite of the fact that the Grinch removed all the Christmas trees, gifts and food from The Who’s down in Whoville. The green goblin could not steal the holiday and thankfully he realized why. The story says that “He puzzled and puzzled till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before”.

‘Here we come a wassailing’s’ dark origin during Christmas
Christmas traditions as we know them today have evolved over the decades and sometimes the celebration was not so merry and bright. There was a time when the December festivities for Roman Bacchanalia, (or Saturnalia,)and the Yule Feast of the Norse countries were filled with “ lascivious ness and debauchery”. There was drunkenness, orgies and excessive feasting for weeks. Christians during that time wanted to hinder the activities they thought to be immoral by celebrating the birth of Christ on December 25. Their efforts backfired however when a number of people combined the two and celebrated Christmas in the same manner as the other mid winter observances. Everyone put their own spin on the holiday and inebriated young men found a way to rob the rich and line their own pockets.

Dr. Obrecht is back with a vengeance on General Hospital
Friday on General Hospital Liesl Obrecht was in rare form. While her good friend Franco was being seen in the clinic, Dr. Kirk was trying to collect on what Liesl promised him. Dr. Kirk was smitten with Dr.O she but mislead him. He believed she would give him romantic favors if he sent Dante Falconeri to get the goods on Peter August and clear her name. Liesel never intended for there to be anything between them and called him a “schwine” (swine) in her German accent behind his back. When Kirk tried to initiate a romantic dalliance Liesl resisted. A scuffle ensued and they fought over a knife Obrecht found.

Royal Home Frogmore Cottage has lost more residents
Queen Sophia Charlotte was known for being the first queen of England whosever ancestry allegedly could be traced back to a black heritage through the Moore’s. Prince William and Duchess Kate Middleton’s daughter Charlotte bears the name of this ancestor. Queen Sophia is also known for a property she owned that is called Frogmore Cottage. This residence is not a cottage at all at least not in the eyes of those of us who are not of the blue blood. To most regular folk it appears to be a stately home which is located on the Frogmore Estate, which is part of Home Park, Windsor, England.

My journey to healthy eating just received a big boost
When it comes to giving up junk food, going cold turkey can be difficult. Years ago I disciplined myself, cut out unhealthy snacks and lowered my cholesterol from 399 to 230 without medication. Now as I am aging I find it more difficult to maintain a healthy lifestyle. I was a child of the 1960s whose grandma loaded us up on snacks every Wednesday when she got paid. My friends and I also walked to the local stores on a regular basis. Wise, Lays, Doreto’s, Moore’s and Tom’s chips were a part of my daily diet. I would curl up on a couch or my bed and have a large bag of chips in hand as Ibread a good book.

Eddie Kendrinks and Mevin Franklin: The iconic voices behind Silent Night by “ The Temptations”
A beloved rendition of Silent Night Over the years, I’ve heard many people, )myself included) who say “ Christmas just ain’t Christmas until you hear The Temptations sing their rendition of Silent Night. I recall one holiday season when for whatever reason I did not hear this popular Christmas tune on the radio. Although I can listen anytime I desire at home, even during the summer, I always enjoy randomly hearing the Temptations singing Silent Night when I’m in the car so I can sing along.

Trump supporters need a Juneteenth revelation. Someone needs to tell them the election is over.
Supporters of Donald Trump’s are converging on Washington to protest and election that is over and done. Joe Biden won fair and square but these Americans obviously did not get the memo. Sure they heard the news but the president has poisoned their minds with lies that the election results were the result of fraud. Trump supporters have not yet downloaded those facts and are operating based on a fallacy. This is in a strange kind of way similar to what took place in this nation 165 years ago. The Emancipation Proclamation was read to American slaves in January 1st 1865. The news did not reach those in bondage in Texas until June 19 of that year. This is why we celebrate Juneteenth because it’s when the last slaves realized they were free.

Charley Pride dies of COVID at age 86
Country music legend Charlie Pride has died from complications of COVID-19. The first African American to become a country music superstar was 86. I can recall when he was the only black man I knew who sang country music. Some African Americans did not understand as they thought country music was only for whites. Charlie Prides staying power, the respect he has garnered and all of his hit records attest to the fact that he was right where he was supposed to be. Pride was honored this past November by the Country Music Association, with the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award during the CMA Awards.

Soap Opera Spoiler alerts and how not to get duped
Spoiler alerts used to reveal plots on the daytime dramas ahead of time and they would be accurate. Viewers who enjoy the soaps do not like to be duped and misled. Recently even when the words "set insider and trusted source" are used, the plots sometimes do not come to pass. There are ways to understand what you are reading in print so you will not become so frustrated. To read that something is a sure thing and not see it play out can be difficult to deal with on a regular basis and fans may lose faith in the so called leaks.
