A dead past does not put a halt to a new future. A year later, Kaffy, a highly intelligent, creative, bookish, and preppy Nigerian-Canadian 15-year-old girl was released from juvenile prison. She was arrested and charged with petty theft and assault, and was sentenced to a year in prison. Her sentence was supposed to be 6 months for stealing a lollipop, a chocolate bar, a pack of playing cards, and a bag of Cheeto's cheesies from 7-Eleven, but she received another 6 months for kicking, punching, and hitting another female inmate across the face during an altercation in the canteen.

The Golden beam they had walked across dissolved into thin air as their timing had been perfect. The old man didn’t tell that the beam would stop running if more than one minute. All four remaining realized they were standing in a most profound place. Fruit trees & birds thrived while the temperature was warm & arid. How can it be so warm inside the polar caps? The family exclaimed thinking they might be in heaven. Their wasn’t anyone there to guide them as the elder old man had vanished leaving them on their own. They walked towards the temple of a fortress with many stairs. The solid door opened where soft lanterns were lit & people scurrying around. A well dressed man appeared who questioned their presence. I am Viridis, Spiritual Adviser of Shangri la, whom might you be? His face not of Orient origin, surprisingly he was Caucasian. His blue eyes seriously intense. Forgive our intrusion, we had crashed our plane in the snow peeked ranges & were rescued by your men. Giorgio said. The man in a plain pale blue robe with sash looked forlorn. Then you have my sincere greetings. He lead them to a large table serving them abundant refreshments while wanting to know more about their plane & whereabouts. Ah! The iron bird! I have heard tales about such inventions yet never have I seen one. Polina asked how it could be so warm among the frozen world. I think my wife could explain this better, Viridis indicated to the woman sitting at the dining table by his side. All eyes were upon the woman also dressed in light blue. Her pale face began to tell of how they were also travelers being brought from an unknown world as children to the location. My wife is the soothsayer who saw your iron bird in one of her visions. Viridis told while servants poured tea. How long have you lived here? Polina asked while tasting the lushness of divine fruit. It has been over two hundred years. Two hundred years? How can this be so? All eyes were upon the lady Maria, soothsayer & wife. Her pale blue veil shrouding her face that looked no more than thirty. There are many fortitudes to learn about Shangri la! Your welcome to stay as long as you please. Viridis leaned back in his chair well pleased at the world he was apart of. Have you ever tried to leave? Polina asked searching for the answers. The golden beam forbids us from doing so, if we do try we will age rapidly as the city preserves us. Viridis spoke words of truth. Then we too will never age? The Russian mother needed to be certain. It was all very exasperating as the family understood they had somehow discovered eternal life.. This is where I shall dwell forever! My cup is overflowing Surly goodness & mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.. They bowed their heads together saying, Amen.
