Bridges between Seasons

Autumn's Entrance

Tall, yellowing grass lines the pathway we walk.

We wave back to all the swaying stalks

Saying goodbye to the sweet scent of September

And to all the summer remnants we remember

Wiffs of New notebooks waft away with the wind

The breeze turns cold as the bridge to autumn begins

"This is my favorite one" you say

"I love how beautiful it makes death and decay"

"I thought this one was about sweaters and soups,

Harvest, hayrides, and homecoming too?"

"Oh it is actually both if you would believe,

And it starts with death, just like the leaves

Look at the colors, look around

Red, orange, yellow and brown

Beautiful * but

Soon they will all fall to the ground.

Rustle and Crunch, my favorite sound

Then the rains will come and start the rot

Along with your cravings for everything hearty homey and hot.”

“I can't wait to experience it all

What a fantastic first month of fall”

“I haven't even mentioned the spooky and macabre,

Some, if not most will say that's the best part”

You put your arm over my shoulder

And we enter October
