Emphasizing The Whoosh; a March Perspective. Top Story - March 2025.
Good afternoon, Vocal Media community and welcome to my first Monday huddle of March! Sorry I missed you last week but I couldn't capture my intended photographs to my liking which are relevant to my story. As an avid birder, I often capture their flight patterns on film, but for this particular prompt, the whoosh, I found my task a bit tricky, especially with the speed of the implied word.

"I just wanted to hold my grandson." Those seven words were uttered by Roberta Bascomb, nicknamed "Bobbie" by her close friends. Those seven words were part of the same story that she told her longtime friend, Paula Dunlop. The story involved the marriage between her son, Nicholas Bascomb, and his wife of three years, Hannah Moon. Roberta said that she loved how happy her "little Nicky" was with Hannah, and she saw Hannah as her own daughter. Hannah wanted so badly to be a mother, but she couldn't, and in the end, Hannah tragically took her own life.

Like any challenge I first read the description of what the challenge is about and what the judges are asking from us as creative writers. So in this challenge "Self-Editing Epiphany they ask us to share an excerpt that I would consider both imperfect and brimming with potential! Immediately I thought of the story I shared in the "Unreliable" Challenge. This challenge asked us to write a story from the perspective of an unreliable narrator.

"There is someone at the front door". Alexa announced in her proper, preppy English voice. Now Dad had just installed a doorbell camera/Alexa informing/bell identification system so one could know when someone comes to the door as no one can hear said bell from way upstairs; thing-a-ma-jig. I don't know much about such things as you can clearly fathom here.

Paul was staring at the Monet’ when something moved, barely encroaching his peripheral vision. The object was on his right side, so he had to verify that something was actually there. He always had to check the right side because he had a “floater”, a tiny scar on his retina that, in certain lighting conditions, created the illusion that he had company. He liked to josh that he got the scar fighting for a maiden's honor, but it really was a tussle with a weed eater that left him with this annoying little blind spot. He knew other blinding forces too, like the dazzling brightness of a beautiful woman. He turned his head to see this manifested in that moment, and through the glow he could discern that she was young, but not too young, and his first glance at her countenance incited him to take a closer look.
