Nothing Matters, But Its Okay

Unlike nihilism, the philosophical belief that rejects the existence of inherent meaning, purpose, or values in life. Optimistic nihilism, is a philosophical concept that encourages finding joy and contentment in life, despite the belief that ultimately nothing holds meaning or significance. By acknowledging and accepting the inherent meaninglessness of the universe, individuals can liberate themselves from the pressure to constantly create meaning in their lives, which often leads to burnout, anxiety, and depression.

Optimistic nihilism asserts that even though everything will eventually be forgotten and life may seem meaningless, our focus should be on pursuing happiness and improving the lives of others.

One of the core principles of optimistic nihilism is appreciating the simple pleasures that bring happiness, such as enjoying a delicious breakfast that brings a smile to your face, and appreciating the beautiful trees you see whilst taking a jog. These moments, though seemingly insignificant in the grand scheme of things, are what make life meaningful on a personal level. Optimistic nihilism teaches us to cherish these experiences for what they are, rather than seeking a grand overarching purpose that may not exist. By embracing the meaninglessness of life, we grant ourselves the freedom to enjoy our existence, create our own purpose, and find fulfillment in life's small pleasures.

Friedrich Nietzsche a German philosopher

Friedrich Nietzsche's a German philosopher who became one of the most influential of all modern thinkers. His attempts to unmask the motives that underlie traditional Western religion, morality, and philosophy deeply affected generations of theologians, philosophers, psychologists, poets, novelists, and playwrights. His observation of a post-Christian society has paved the way for this new way of thinking about our existence. It allows us to liberate ourselves from the burden of trying to find meaning in an ultimately meaningless universe. Instead, we can adopt an optimistic perspective, appreciating the beauty and wonder of our existence without the weight of an imposed significance.

Another type of nihilism is pessimistic nihilism, which argues that existence is devoid of meaning and that eventual death renders everything futile that all values are baseless, and that nothing can be known or communicated. Optimistic nihilism on the other hand takes a liberating stance, it recognizes that the vastness of the universe offers countless experiences and possibilities, urging us to embrace happiness and strive for a utopian society beyond Earth.

While individuals have the freedom to shape their own lives and create internal narratives, this pursuit can often lead to burnout, anxiety, and depression. Optimistic nihilism provides relief from the constant pressure to make our lives meaningful by embracing the belief that, in the grand scheme of the universe, nothing truly matters. By accepting our insignificance, we can forgive ourselves for past mistakes and approach the future unburdened by the weight of meaningless significance.

While it doesn't absolve individuals of responsibility for their actions and their consequences, it allows for the acceptance that everything in life ultimately fades away into nothingness. Rather than obsessing over creating meaning, the focus should be on embracing the precious and awe-inspiring moments that life offers. Life itself is transient, and it is crucial to embrace the void and emerge on the other side, ready to relish the goodness that life has to offer.

Despite the monumental challenges that lie before us, the philosophy of optimistic nihilism encourages us to find joy in life and positively impact the lives of others. It emphasizes that making a difference and enhancing the well-being of those around us is the most meaningful way to utilize the limited time we have. Optimistic nihilism is the ability of a person to create his own meaning after fully accepting that the universe is a large place of meaninglessness
