Anxiety Panic Attacks and Depression

There is Hope

Anxiety, panic attacks, and depression are not conditions with a quick cure, but in my experience, recovery is possible for the vast majority of sufferers. For the rest, managing the anxiety, panic attacks, and depression is the available option for feeling better. Either way, there is hope of feeling better. You certainly can feel better. And I hope that this article gives you hope. Hope can propel you onto the next stage, that of seeking treatment or self-help, or both.

Many people with anxiety, including anxiety with panic attacks, know that their thoughts do not actually make logical sense, but they cannot help thinking them. And anyone who is depressed will tell you that they cannot just snap out of it. it can. It can feel a bit lonely sometimes, when others just do not understand that you were too anxious to meet up, were avoiding a panic attack, or just felt too depressed to meet up, for example.

It is good to join support groups and get together with others who can understand and give you a shoulder to lean on or encouraging words when needed. You are not alone, and you should not feel isolated because of anxiety, panic attacks, and depression.

And you are not going mad! Like I often say to my clients, you are reacting normally to abnormal situations that happened to you. And you can get relief with the right treatment, including medical, complementary, and self-help.

In my experience, a challenging childhood can lead to anxiety and depression. Looking at this logically, being long-term in a situation where you had to be ready for something going suddenly wrong can lead to anxiety. And being long-term in a situation from which there was no escape can lead to depression. So, it should come as no surprise that anxiety (including anxiety with panic attacks) and depression often go together. Sometimes, the sufferer has no idea that they had a challenging childhood. This is because it seems normal to them, or they compare themselves to others, who have suffered extremes of abuse, and simply assume that theirs was a good or neutral childhood. Please do not belittle your own experience and feelings. Yours matters too.

What is more, this is not just in your mind or even just in your brain. This involves the whole body. For example, panic attacks and depression involve something going wrong in the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis function. This is why I like therapies that go further than talk and thinking.

I have found EFT Tapping, otherwise known as Emotional Freedom Techniques, or simply Tapping, an excellent aid for releasing anxiety, panic attacks, and depression. Please be careful when watching EFT videos and reading EFT success articles, though. On the one hand, EFT Tapping gives great results with the right practitioner, who is suitably skilled and experienced. On the other hand, some genuinely great EFT success stories can give the impression that this is a quick cure. Whereas EFT Tapping is, in my personal and professional experience, faster and more complete in producing results, you cannot do EFT tapping a few times and expect your symptoms to disappear. Rather, over a period of time, you can achieve real freedom from those uncomfortable feelings. In my experience, this is a period of time that is shorter than counselling, CBT, psychotherapy, or even hypnotherapy, but it still will take weeks or maybe even months, rather than a few days.

I hope this article gives you hope.
