Why Isn't CBD Working For You?

Are you not quite into it?

Let’s say you’ve been convinced to try CBD for one of it’s many advertised therapeutic benefits. Once you’re package arrives, you unscrew the cap, consume a few drops, and … nothing out of the ordinary happens.

While a lot of people will benefit from this cannabinoid, it may not have the desired effect due to several reasons. This article will down some common reasons why CBD isn’t living up to your expectations.

You’re Not Patient Enough

While some products may give you the anticipation of instant relief, you must comprehend that it’s absorption varies and is never instant. To give you an idea, refer to this article on how long does it take for CBD oil to work.

For reference, it can take between one to six hours to feel the effects by taking straight drops. The fastest way of taking it is via vaping, but you still need to wait a minimum of 3 minutes and it’s relatively short-lasting. With any edible method, the food you eat in combination or before ingesting it can also affect timing.

If your budget allows it, feel free to experiment with different delivery systems. There are now patches, edible candies, vape oils, capsules, and topical creams on the market with varying brands and results.

You’re Under-Dosed

Especially if you are new or haven’t done a whole lot of research, your dose may not be potent enough to have a noticeable effect. Sure, some people can get away with micro-dosing CBD for minor ailments or mental health, but some people have to take upwards of 200mg per day.

There is also the possibility that you have underdosed or bunk CBD if you buy from an unreliable source. Since the market is still quite unregulated and full of opportunists, you will need to find well-reviewed and tested products to assure you are getting the right dose.

If you plan on getting CBD from hemp oil or smoking hemp, keep in mind that results may vary compared to taking pure extracts.

You Need a Longer Trial

It’s uncommon for most people to see immediate medical benefits by taking CBD. It may take at least several weeks before noticing a difference.

A reasonable approach to CBD is to start with a small dose and gradually increasing it. This will allow you to find a tolerable dose and let it build up in your system over time, hopefully stimulating your possibly dysfunctional endocannabinoid system.

Try and keep track of your results in a journal. Take note of how you feel each day, including any side effects or reduction of certain symptoms that you want to alleviate.

If you don’t see an effect over multiple months, you may need to try a different brand or a different remedy in general. Some people may benefit by switching over to full-blown medical marijuana, but that would require consulting with your doctor.

Maybe You Don’t Need CBD

Even after giving CBD another shot, you may find that it’s just not your thing. Whether your body metabolizes it differently than others or you need a completely different remedy, it is just a plant extract and not a miracle drug.

The key part in which CBD is beneficial to most people is its reaction with the CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid receptors. Many studies have linked certain diseases to an under-stimulated endocannabinoid system, but that may not apply to you.

One study suggests that you could have a genetic mutation in which you are already overflowing with endocannabinoids. In that case, CBD probably won’t have much effect on your cannabinoid receptors, and you will need to see your doctor evaluate other treatment options.

Besides, just because CBD oil is so popular doesn’t mean you are obliged to take it. Just like smoking pot, everyone reacts to it differently, and if your experience isn’t positive, it’s time to move on.
