Is It worth Taking CBD Edibles?

A tastier way to take this cannabinoid extract.

Cannabidiol is now one of the more popular cannabinoids, arguably surpassing THC, and it’s being used in a plethora of ways. The most basic means of taking it is through a dropper straight to your tongue, and others prefer to vape it.

Just like people enjoy THC edibles, CBD can also be mixed in with snacks for improved palatability. One example being CBD gummies, which is simply CBD oil infused with gelatin and sugar for a sweet treat. While it’s enjoyable, is it the best way to take it?

Saving Your Lungs

While vaping or smoking is the quickest way to deliver your dose of cannabidiol, there is still the concern of it harming your lungs. Inhaling hot oil itself may not be the best idea, but the primary thing to look out for is thinning agents.

One study suggests that commonly used thinning agents like polyethylene glycol (PEG) convert into carcinogens. Other secondary ingredients used for scents or flavoring can also be carcinogenic.

The use of edible substances, whether oil or gummies, is a lot safer in that regard. If you have not to need an instant hit, just eat it.

Longer Effect

While you have to be more patient. digesting an edible form of CBD will cause a more long-lasting effect compared to vaping. The type of food in which the CBD is combined is a major factor in how long you have to wait for it to take effect. Something fibrous would take longer than gelatin, so gummies are relatively quick.

If you let the edible candy linger under your tongue, you will get a faster hit as it’s also absorbable sublingually. The mucous membranes of the mouth are capable of getting it quickly to your bloodstream, so swallowing it is just a bonus.

You Can Take It Anywhere

Imagine you need to take your medicinal dose of CBD while at work or in public. Would you rather pull out a vape pen, a mysterious vial of oil, or some yummy gummy bears?

Since there is a stigma for anything marijuana-related, it’s still a concern to keep CBD-based remedies on the down-low. Edibles are quite practical for traveling, work, school or taking it around the family to avoid awkward conversations. Even better, swap it out for another container so it’s just regular candy to everyone else.

You Won’t Get High

The only thing giving you the munchies will be sweet gummy bears, not the infused cannabinoid. THC is the substance that’s famous for getting people high and sometimes causing anxiety or paranoia.

Some people report a high feeling in a positive manner, usually related to a sense of relieving overall well-being in the body. People with chronic pain will probably feel much better, but it isn’t a “high” in the traditional sense.

If you have a blood test coming up, don’t sweat it as getting gummies from a reliable source won’t trigger false positives. It should be noted that products using poorly processing oil may cause THC to build up for a long period of time.

Bottom Line

CBD edibles are safe, effective and sometimes more efficient to take than other consumption methods. You can buy oil on your own to make your own tasty treats, but for the sake of convenience, you can probably find candies made locally.

Be sure to resist the urge to consume gummies or other edibles above your target dosage to avoid unwanted side effects. If you are not really sure, just take one gummy or read the bottle for any recommended doses. If you are on any medications, consult with your doctor before deciding upon the right dosage, if any.
