I Was a 1970s Pot Guinea Pig
The ad, or ones very similar, had appeared in Boston’s Real Paper and Phoenix for almost four years. Intrigued, needing money, hating work, in between college and the future, and with the encouragement of some friends tired of my freeloading, I made an appointment at McClean Hospital in the suburb of Belmont. I answered the ad.
Too long have yogis stood in the alley behind the studio and had a quick toke before class begins. Edibles, in moderation, can contribute to a really great spiritual session. But imagine a world where you roll up to your yoga studio with your bottle of water, yoga mat, and a joint. This fantasy is a reality for yogis in California who visit yoga studios, such as Ganja Yoga in San Francisco or 420 Remedy Yoga in Glendale. Normally, consuming cannabis signals the brain to release more dopamine and put you in a happier place. When this is combined with yoga, it helps you heighten your spiritual consciousness in a way that could not be reached otherwise. There is already yoga for wine, chocolate and dog lovers, so it’s about time there was yoga for marijuana. This practice of pairing weed and yoga is not new, however.
America’s First Legal Pot Smoker
The true story of America’s first legal marijuana smoker was chronicled in 1979 by Michael J. Weiss. For the first time in digital format, here is his report on the first sit down with the Legend, Robert Randall, the first man to legally smoke pot in this country.
That's Good Shit
Someone from WeedWorld back in the 1980s told me about this college professor at Quahog University who apparently knew more about 'good shit' than anyone else in the country. He sent me to interview him. Needless to say, I was skeptical that there could really be an academic who specialized in 'good shit', especially as I had been told that he was called Professor Hash. It had to be a joke. Despite my skepticism, when I arrived at Quahog University and asked for Professor Hash I was courteously directed towards a small Victorian building at the rear of the college. I knocked on an old oak door and was met by a middle aged man with thick pebble glasses and a mass of wiry white hair.
Medical Marijuana Business
The federal government is still adamant about withholding country wide legalization, yet states around the country are hacking away at marijuana restrictions which benefit local economies. Colorado and Washington are the only two states so far to pass voter proposals of fully legalizing marijuana for recreational use and even with certain stipulations in the law in place, the rewards have been ample. Colorado is collecting huge amounts in tax revenues since sales started in the beginning of 2015. Washington, on the other hand, has not executed and utilized the laws as well as Colorado, but is still predicted to have similar rewards over time. Regardless of the differences in the industries and laws of all 50 states, medical marijuana dispensaries, the donation system, and collective gardens all work the same. This will be a short transitional period. Colorado is single-handedly rebuilding its educational system with marijuana tax surpluses.
Is Driving High Dangerous?
Is driving under the influence of marijuana dangerous? Is the stoned driver, like the drunken driver, a menace on the highway, sitting behind the wheel of an automobile that he cannot reasonably control? If you already smoke marijuana on social occasions, you may have assured that many tests over years of study have not been able to demonstrate that marijuana has anything like the effect of alcohol on driving performance. In terms of reaction time, steering and braking errors, and other standards used in a number of tests, social marijuana users performed almost as well as the control groups, while those given alcohol, persistently had poorer scores.
History of the Marijuana Lab Mouse
Nobody says you have to sit Shiva, but it's sad when the mouse you got high eventually dies. The laboratory mouse is like a small friend. Mammal of the Rodentia classification, bred specifically for scientific research. Usually of the species Mus musculus, these mice really keep to themselves, extremely well- behaved. Mice belong to the Euarchontoglires clade, and so do human beings. This is always shocking to many people who never bothered to ask why exactly we test on mice before performing similar testings on people. Some amongst us actually believe this is because nobody gives a shit about what happens to mice, because we can just clone another 1,000 when we need them. But of course there is actually a scientific reason. The close relationship, or more appropriately the associated high-homology with us humans, their ease of handling and maintenance, and their actual birthrate made mice effectively the best test subjects for human-oriented research. The classic laboratory mouse genome has been properly sequenced and an abundance of mice genes have human homologues. Some say God works in mysterious ways, some say evolution is so absolutely fascinating. When it came to Marty, it didn’t matter. He was my friend. But that was along time ago, in a different America.
