There are so many receptors in the human body each of which mediates different physiological functions. These receptors are usually chemical structures that are protein-based. These receptors usually attach themselves to cells and different receptor sites, and they also help in receiving signals from so many stimuli.

There are two major receptors that CBD interacts with a and this is the CB1 and CB2 receptors. The two receptors are mainly found in the peripheral nervous system and also in the central nervous system. Although it is not fully understood how CBD affects the receptors, particularly the CB1 receptors, however, there are numerous evidences showing that it acts in ways that alters serotonin signals.

You are probably wondering what serotonin receptors are. Well these are neurotransmitters that play a major role in mental health. People who are depressed have been associated with a very low serotonin level. There are also cases where low level of serotonin has been associated with anxiety. Drugs belonging to the class of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors are the common drugs of choice to treat low level of serotonin. Examples of these drug substances include fluoxetine, sertraline and many more. However, a drawback to these drugs comes from the fact that they are prescription only medications and as such they cannot be accessed easily.

It is important to note that CBD can be used to effectively manage anxiety and this is not a prescription only medication. It is easily accessible unlike the SSRI. It is however, important to always get the right consultation before using any medication for your health.

Several studies have been conducted all of which shows the effectiveness of CBD in managing different types of anxiety disorders. An example of this is the research work which was carried out by the National Institute on Drug Abuse in order to find evidence to show that CBD can be used for managing generalized anxiety disorders.

The conclusion they made showed that CBD reduced stress in the animal models they used and this effect can be successfully extrapolated to human beings where the same effects would be obtained. These studies also revealed that the physiological symptoms of anxiety which includes increased heart rates were also improved by CBD. This is enough evidence to show that CBD can be used in treating generalized anxiety disorders.

Other research work has also been carried out to show the effectiveness of CBD in treating other anxiety disorders like post-traumatic stress disorder and social anxiety disorders. These studies also showed that it is very effective in treating insomnia and other physiological symptoms of anxiety. One of the studies that was conducted was carried out in 2011 and the participants used for this study were given 400mg dose of CBD. The observations made in these participants revealed that their anxiety levels reduced significantly.

Multiple studies have also been carried out to show the effect of CBD in reducing the symptoms of PTSD which includes replaying negative thoughts and memories, and nightmares. This study showed that CBD is sufficient enough to be a standalone remedy for PTSD and it can also be used as a supplement in addition to other medications that would help to improve the state of health. CBD has also been proven to be effective in a wide number of other neurological disorders and this has also been studied scientifically and many promising results were obtained from these studies. The future of CBD as a whole is a really promising one and very soon, the product would be widely used in hospitals for treating anxiety and several other similar disorders.
