What is Cannabis Sativa?

Cannabis sativa, also known as marijuana or hemp, contains a chemical compound called Cannabidiol. There are around 80 active compounds found in cannabis sativa plants that are referred to as cannabinoids.

CBD, Marijuana, And Cannabidiol

The full name of CBD is cannabidiol, it’s the second most prevalent of the active ingredients of cannabis (marijuana). While CBD is an essential component of medical marijuana, it is derived directly from the hemp plant, a cousin of the marijuana plant. While CBD is a component of marijuana (one in hundreds), by itself it does not cause a "high". According to a report by the World Health Organization, "In humans, CBD shows no effect of any abuse or sign of dependency capacity. To date, there is no evidence of public health related problems associated with the use of pure CBD oil. "

There are some controversies and disputes surrounding cannabis products such as CBD oil due to recreational marijuana use. Although there is increasing awareness about the potential health benefits of CBD oil. There are many medicinal and pharmaceutical uses of CBD. Let's discuss some of them.

1. Relieving anxiety

Scientific studies claim CBD can help you in managing anxiety and stress. Scientists believe that the potent ingredients in CBD changes the way your brain responds to the receptor's serotonin, which is a chemical linked to mental health. CBD stops pain and stress related signals that travel through receptors which are small proteins connected to body cells that receive chemical information and improve cells that react to various stimuli.

A recent study discovered that just a mere 500mg dose of CBD maintained a sound mental health that had less levels of stress and anxiety. Also animals who are given CBD show less anxiety and are more calm.

1. CBD helps to reduce the stress levels

2. Helps to decrease the physical effects of anxiety, such as increased heart rate and

Exhaustion.

3. Improvement in symptoms of traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

4. Inspiring sleep in cases of insomnia.

2. Anti seizure

Cannabis (CBD) has also been an effective medicine and a possible way for ignoring epilepsy. The research is yet in its initial days but researchers and scientists are testing how CBD can be reduced in people suffering from epilepsy.

A 2016 study source worked with 214 people with epilepsy. Research members joined oral doses of 3 to 6mg CBD per day to their actual anti-epileptic drugs or medications. The researchers of the study observed the members for 12 weeks, reported negative side effects, and examined their frequency of seizures. Overall, participants had 37.5 percent fewer visits per month.

3. CBD as a pain reliever

CBD oil contains cannabidiol which affects the body’s endocannabinoid system (a complex system of cell-to-cell communication). This in return helps suppress pain receiving receptors. Along with contributing to brain functions like memory and mood, the endocannabinoid system influences how we experience pain.

Above we discussed how CBD helps in relieving anxiety and pain with its anti seizure properties. Now let's see how CBD is extracted.

First lets see what CBD oil is formed of -

Aerial parts of the cannabis sativa plant contain 40% from where it is extracted. We have to expose plant material to the solvent to extract CBD from hemp. CBD does not dissolve in water. CBD oil is extracted using the CO2 extraction method discussed below.

Super critical CO2 extraction:

Nowadays, the safest, cleanest method used by industrialists to extract CBD oil is CO2 extraction.

In this method, extraction machines inject pressurised liquid CO2 into the chamber of the ground hemp plant. Then CBD is collected in a collecting vessel and CO2 can be used again. The CO2 extraction method is the same method that companies used to extract essential oil to make perfumes. The CBD oil obtained from this method does not contain any other trace elements. The mechanism of extraction of CBD oil is expensive, but in order to compete in the market manufacturers have to introduce new equipment.

So, to conclude, we have discussed a few from a list of benefits that CBD Oil has. Along with its anxiety and pain relieving properties, CBD has also shown positive effects in patients with epilepsy seizures. CBD Oil extraction takes a lot of time and effort, price of CBD Oil mainly depends on the quality and extraction methods used to retain its medicinal properties.
