Weed has become the “in” thing in Hollywood—and not just because of the popularity of sex, drugs, and rock n’ roll. It’s edgy, but at the same time, still allows people to function. It’s a perfect treat for the rockstar type.

Over the years, there have been many popular movie stars, models, and musicians who have smoked weed. Think Cheech Marin, Jay and Silent Bob, or Afroman, if you want to just get a couple of examples of the more “classic” Hollywood stoner types.

But, it's not only Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart who smoke weed every day. These days, some really surprising names rank among celebrities who smoke weed. Here are some of the ones that many people might not expect.

George Clooney

Who doesn’t love George Clooney? The famous movie man himself is known for his put-together appearance, mature outlook on life, and for being devilishly handsome. One thing you would never guess about this guy is that he’s one of the many celebrities who smoke weed from time to time.

The actor has been spotted buying up a bag of ganja during a filming session in Amsterdam. Smoke up, my friend. Smoke up.

Kirsten Dunst

Kirsten Dunst has long been an advocate of cannabis legalization, and has openly expressed that her outlook on marijuana legalization is a positive one. She definitely enjoys a puff or two of the green stuff—more often than not, in the company of other celebrities who smoke weed!

Considering how often she plays conservative roles, it’s kind of hard to see her doing bong hits. Even so, she said the world would be a “better place” if it was decriminalized.

Barack Obama

Believe it or not, the 44th President of the United States was an avid pothead back during his college days. Fellow basketball players from his college remember him as a weed-toking aficionado who always knew how to crack a joke.

His Hawaiian friends noted that he was part of the “Choom Gang,” with “choom” being a term used to describe marijuana. He’d often intercept joints just so he could have a puff.

Carl Sagan

The late astronomer is best known for having a lot of amazing theories and offering up vast contributions in his field. He’s become popular for his life philosophies, his scientific knowledge, and for just being a cool guy.

Surprise! Kirsten Dunst said that he’s probably one of the brainiest celebrities who smoke weed in the history of Hollywood. (She’s hung out with him multiple times, so she ought to know.)

Lady Gaga

To a point, you kind of have to expect Lady Gaga to show up on a list of celebrities who smoke weed. She’s a byproduct of Manhattan’s wild-but-gritty nightlife, and that means that she’s definitely had at least one puff or two.

She’s admitted to smoking cannabis on her documentary, Gaga: Five Foot Two. The cannabis use she’s linked to is almost entirely medicinal, primarily due to her fibromyalgia struggles. Even so, she’s been known to cut loose. She smoked so much pot in front of Beyoncé, the singer actually got freaked out about it.

Cameron Diaz

Here’s a shocker that most people wouldn’t see coming. Cameron Diaz and Snoop Dogg went to the same high school. Moreover, Snoop Dogg was Cameron Diaz’s weed dealer! The two celebrities have probably spent quite a few years toking and talking during those developmental years.

Are you as surprised as we are? She seems so conservative!

Justin Timberlake

With a boy band reputation as squeaky-clean as Timberlake’s was, it’s really hard to picture Justin doing anything even remotely racy. However, Timberlake has admitted in a 2011 interview with Playboy magazine that he’s an avid cannabis smoker.

According to Timberlake, he smokes weed because it helps him “stop thinking about things,” which in turn, probably eases his anxiety. He also admitted that some people are just better off staying high.

Megan Fox

Do you remember actress Megan Fox? The model and actress came under serious fire for openly admitting to smoking marijuana on a regular basis. Unsurprisingly, the mother of three is more than tired of hearing the flak she got for it.

Much like other celebrities who smoke weed, Fox feels like the amount of stigma she gets over her use of cannabis is unfair. (We agree, Megan. We agree.)

Brad Pitt

The father of six(?) and Hollywood hottie doesn’t seem to be the type of person who would be a pothead. He’s known for being a family man, taking on pretty elegant roles, and for his philanthropy work. But, make no mistake about it. He’s one of the most famous celebrities who smoke on this list.

During the 90s, he was having a hard time coping with his fame and turned to weed to help him get used to it. According to multiple sources, part of the reason why Angelina Jolie divorced him was because he loved cannabis just a little bit too much.

Marilyn Monroe

It seems like a lot of celebrities who smoke weed keep it under wraps, and that included retro names like Marilyn Monroe. A recently-unearthed clip showed the world famous sex symbol smoking what appears to be a joint with friends.

After taking a good puff, puff, pass, Monroe can be seen giggling and goofing around. This wouldn’t be too shocking, considering that Monroe had regularly struggled with pill addiction in the years prior to her death.
