What was lost.

A poem about loss and grief.

The last rays of light faded with the sun sinking beyond the horizon. The surf washing against the shore filled my ears with its foamy sigh. The stars poked holes in the darkness as I stared across the barren sea. The wind churned and whipped until the clouds filled the holes the stars had made. I smiled as I lifted anchor and loosed the sail. The rain came first is slow fat drops but soon the wind carried stinging darts of blistering wetness. Lightning flashed and flashed again. I smiled with gritted teeth and urged more wind into the sail. I danced with wooden shoes upon the glassy sea. The wind embraced me and I held it fiercely. For when the sun broke free I found my hands empty, my kisses stolen away, and my embrace a gentle lifeless brush. Sitting lost in the over bright sun I drifted away, looking for what was lost.
