Our highly developed brain has given us intelligence and curiosity, now with the help of sophisticated scientific instruments, we can try and make sense of the Universe and our existence.
The vast distances between the stars.
The space between the stars is vast. Using our own unaided vision about 5,000 stars are visible from the surface of our planet, but the Earth itself gets in the way and restricts what we can see, therefore we can only see about 2,500 stars from any one viewpoint on our planet.

1 / 4 Your Birthday Image. Thanks to the Hubble Telescope. As of 2023, the Hubble Space Telescope continues its very important scientific work. Hubble has been operating in space for over 32 years, which is a lot longer than anyone expected.
Galaxies are massive objects.
1 / 4 Galaxies are massive objects holding vast numbers of stars, all held together by gravity. There are three major types of galaxies the first being a spiral galaxy like our own Milky Way. Most spiral galaxies consist of a flat rotating disk of stars with a bulge in the centre which contains a large concentration of stars.
The Speed of the Earth’s Rotation is Deceiving.
1 / 4 Most of us will know that the Earth rotates on its axis once every 24 hours. If you were to stand on the widest part of the Earth, the equator, you would be travelling at 1,670 kilometres per hour, all due to that rotation. But the farther you travel north or south from that point, the slower your rotating speed would be.
