What is Love Anyway
Thoughts on a unified definition of love
What is love anyway?
Is it the thing that you need in the small hours of the night?
When you are alone and the void feels close and personal.
Like it is holding the answer to you.
Right beyond your perception.
Waiting and longing with the energy to match yours.
Is it the comfort of your mother?
A tickling floral smell.
Warmth and security like your favorite blanket.
The only unconditional support you have ever known.
The place where you go when you are blind by the fear impulse.
Is it in the sensual touch of a partner?
The carnal embrace that drives you mad.
Where all reason is abandoned.
Dusky dark and intoxicating.
Little death is culmination and then reprieve.
Is it the companionship of the best friend?
The only person that gets you.
Partners in crime and adventure.
Laughing at your worst jokes.
Forgiving your worst mistakes.
Is it in the protection of your child?
Sacrifice everything for the promise of youth.
The promise of life after death.
The care and affection of innocence.
The one thing that must be preserved at all cost.
Is it what you carry in your core?
The drive to exist and thrive.
The reminder to prioritize you.
To cherish the heart that beats inside.
The rhythm of your own existence.
Why not all these things?
All this and more.
Stated simply.
The joy found in the existence of:
Your longing.
Your mother.
Your lover.
Your child.
Yourself.
