Welcome Distant Friend

For a friend from far beyond the stars

Do I express, "greetings" to you?

Maybe, an earthly, friendly, "How do you do?"

I hope your trip wasn't too bad.

Traveling whence you came, to this place you come to.

+++

Come now, follow me, there is something I must present.

A wondrous thing it is, I'll be very transparent.

If it can do it for us, maybe it can also make you glad.

It's something we all are capable of sharing, a feeling so omnipresent.

+++

It's the reason why we cry, laugh, fight, and jump for joy.

It's for everyone, adults, children, girls, and boys.

It doesn't take much, only a bit, a tad.

A feeling so overwhelming, that you could enjoy.

+++

We write beautiful songs about it.

We have stories, tales, and plays all great hits.

for this thing is captivating, the best we've ever had.

Reflected in history, arts, and culture all throughout time I must admit.

+++

Some have destroyed because of it, overwhelmed in a state.

But many have used it, the power it has to create.

I must admit, because of it we sometimes run mad.

But we wouldn't trade it for the world, that's no debate.

+++

We cling to it because it's needed.

In good times and bad, it helps, our expectations exceeded

This thing we got here, if it left, we'd go sad.

So we keep it close, it's our nature, we humans completed.

+++

Well, my distant friend from the stars high above.

As you travel back to places we humans can only dream of.

There is one thing more, that I must add.

A name for the thing I introduced to you, what we humans cling to, love.
