Those Days They Were Restless and Free

His mind could clearly see

Poem Ballade Form (Chanson)

The years had made him much older

And things were just not the same

He complained that it’s getting still colder

And could not remember her name

There was no one she would blame

His mind could just now see

Ever so clearly the old days

Those days they were restless and free.

His eyes would flash up and wander

So far he might lose his way

For hours and hours re-tell her

The same stories twice each day

In almost the very same way

He would talk up a rousing blue streak

When they were young and life set ablaze

Those days they were restless and free.

He would never have wanted to hurt her

She was the love of his life always

The worlds they both had discovered

He so cheerfully replayed

Adventures were new for each day

He would look in her eyes and plea

Could he run and sweep her away

To those days they were restless and free.

She cupped her hands soft around his face

And whispered “Soon we might see

We can secretly plan our escape!”

Those days, they were restless and free.
