the thought counts
a poem for the broken-hearted

He cuts her a new scar
Every chance that he gets.
Reopens her scabs so,
They never heal.
Shedding blood for a man
Is a terrible deal.
Yet, she stays.
He digs a hole from under her feet
Right before his abandonment.
It’s no accident…
He gives her just enough love so,
She’ll stick it out.
There’s no new route
That could lead this
Relationship to something
Pleasant.
In his world, he is king.
And she’s his peasant.
He returns with flowers again.
This time she’s not
Full of joy.
She has woken up—
Realizes she’s just his toy.
The flowers are gorgeous but,
What do they mean?
How he treats her is ok?
She throws the vase
Onto the floor!
CRASH!
It completely shatters.
What good is he anyway…
He’s never around
When it truly matters.
