The Jewelry Chest
The Treasures it Holds
The dull silver locket, that holds in its pocket
A picture of grandparents so loved
Fond memories of childhood, of laughter and baked goods
They’re watching us now from above
The pearls from the mother, who loves like no other
But sometimes forgets things she knew
A so sad reality, a monster of cruelty
A smile for a memory breakthrough
A cross from a brother, a charm from the other
Sibling love in the trinkets shines through
A chain from an old pal, not seen since we were gals
A forty year friendship renewed
An angel wing of gold, the memorial it holds
Of a best friend who’s taken too soon
A now broken family, with nothing but memories
Of a woman so loved, and so mourned.
In a chest aged and worn, its glaze frayed and torn
Lay the memories of life new and old
A box filled with riches, their real value which is
More precious than silver and gold
