Christmas comes near with the prospect of light:
Streets are pulsating with steady footfall
And overhead garlands hang heavy and bright,
Heralds of goodwill's incumbent arrival.
A window beckons, and I am drawn in.
The door opens wide with a clunk of a bell.
Quiet, I stand there away from the din,
Closeted, cushioned, absorbing the smell.
Stacked to the roof with colours divine
Books sit beguilingly, perched on their shelves.
This is a place that I wish could be mine.
Today, I am here, delighted to delve.
Browsing and scanning, I seek and I look
Until my gaze falls on the loveliest book.

I'm not a great one for shopping; I find it a little tedious. Except books. I could shop for books all day long. And a book shop? Oh, I love them. The smell. The feel of them as you come through their door. The quiet atmosphere of the place. Knowing that you're surrounded by so much learning and imagination and stories and pictures and lives and history!
Wonderful, wonderful places!
I wrote this in appreciation of my local bookshop, a little place that fills me with joy when I go into it on so many different levels, both sensory and emotional.
How do you feel about bookshops?
Can you guess what book I purchased on this day?
This is dedicated to The Yellow-Lighted Bookshop.

Omgggg, I loveeeeeeeeee bookshops! I hate shopping, it exhausts me mentally. But I can be left in a bookshop for hours and I'll have the time of my life! I don't know what book you bought, please enlighten me. Loved your poem!
Dear Rachel - Just the draw of the book lined rows brought me into the small stores: Book Special-Scent made them a confort zone; I think you git that. Odd, yes...but a place to wrap things up for awhile learning about how others think with their words; I could never learn enough. I like it when you just talk to us here in the VillageBucket j-bud
Love it 🥰 Fellow bookshop lover here 👋 xx
Any devout bibliophile will find this delightful, which I most certainly did!
Ooh, I feel tingly with the bookshop thrills.
