That Woman

To the children and their mothers, I dedicate this to you. I dedicate this to the mothers who were once those children too.

That woman is not your mother.

Your mother wakes up rested, and content.

That woman pacing back and forth searching for the money that she already spent...that woman is not your mother.

Your mother don’t forget to pay the rent.

That woman...she is not your mother.

Your mother does not isolate.

She does not lock herself inside her room or sleep the day away, well past noon.

That woman... that woman is not your mother.

Your mother tells the truth.

Your mother cooks breakfast and keeps the fridge stocked up with food.

That woman...she is not your mother.

Your mother draws, she paints, she takes pictures and she goes to the gym.

Your mother brushes her teeth and washes her face every night because she cares about her skin.

That woman is not your mother.

Your mother does not pretend.

Your mother does not act like she’s ok when she is not, your mother is not fake and she’s rarely ever late to anything she sets a date...that woman...she is not your mother.

Your mother shows up to parties and events.

Your mother doesn’t care what people say or think, she wears clothes that compliment her figure, she knows how to dress, your mother is a lady. That woman?

She doesn’t even look like your mother.

She’s messy.

She’s lazy.

She’s dirty.

She’s sad.

She doesn’t even know what day it is, she can’t give you the time, she’s lost her mind, she’s raging, she’s mad.

She’s drunk.

She’s losing herself.

She won’t admit it but she needs some help.

That woman... she is not your mother.

You have to walk away.

That doesn't mean that you don't love her it just means that you cannot stay.

Because that woman...she is not your mother.

She has to do this on her own.

Let her go.

Let her be.

And pray to God that one day she sees...that she is your mother.

And your mother...is me.
