surreal poetry
Surrealist poetry embodies the essence of poetry itself, drawing upon shocking imagery and lyrical incongruities to comment on the inner-workings of the mind.
Expectant
I remember the first year we tried. It was daunting but we were untouchable, outshining gold. Life was prime and existence was ripe with favor and chances. It's been 20 years since the first try. But our dream of you never died. Every corner we turned, everywhere we looked you belonged to someone else. We thought we'd had you two years before but you slipped away and failure mocked us again. On cue, a divine voice would assure us in the interim, "You will overcome. There will be a successful again."
