My favourite colour

A poem inspired by color

By Lucy Shirt Published 5 years ago 1 min read

I refuse to have a favourite colour

It’s a question of insanity.

If I could see the world in one colour what would it be?

If I slept, woke, went about my day,

Would one colour ever be enough?

Hues of green that meticulously carve out our world; life

Tones of blue that mark the impossibility of our existence; hope

Threads of oranges and pinks that promise another day; peace

But most of all I see diversity, a performance, illustrating the freedoms I have

Whether I choose green or blue or pink or purple or a shade that doesn’t exist,

That decision resides in my hands and mine only.

Each day is incomplete if all the colours aren’t in it.

Life’s a perpetual rampage of pigment

Ineffable. Lucent.

Try to remove it and it will glow ever more sublime

surreal poetry
