Color

Sophie Gillet

By Sophie Maras-GilletPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

I didn’t want to be green for a long long time. I was born yellow and for a while I was pink but I was ashamed that I was pink so I turned myself green because if I’m green at least I’m not orange. But one day I saw someone who was so pink that I couldn’t bare to look. You’re so fucking pink! All of the colors love your pink! Why didn’t they like mine? I tried to find my pink, but all I could manage to uncover were traces of pink and traces of yellow. I am incomplete like this, I thought, so I tried to become green again, but at that moment I realized that I was never really green or pink or yellow, but a muddy mix of lots of colors that didn’t make anything really.

Part 2: Epiphany

As I confront myself

like an illiterate at a bookshelf

And stare at confusion

authored by some trickster illusion

I realize that there is always more in me

In all the things I see but cannot see

Like all the shades of color that will never be

revealed

Especially in shades we cannot see

when unveiled that I could never be

stagnant

came epiphany

surreal poetry
