The family had a long-forgotten house deep in the countryside that once belonged to our now deceased cousin. It was located deep in the woods, at least an hour's drive from the main road. When my parents decided to visit and see what shape it was in, they packed up the car with me, my little brother, and another cousin and made the long drive out.

When I was about 8-10 years old (I don't remember exactly), my sister and I were at a family party hosted by my uncle's parents. Being Mexican, our parties typically involved lots of relatives, their kids, and random friends, so there were probably 20-25 people there. The party was in my uncle's parents' driveway and front yard, with tables of food in the driveway and kids playing in the front yard where there was a bouncy house.

Whether that poetry was written by the dictate of our instructors in school, or driven by hormone-fueled teenage angst, there was a portfolio of our work available to embarrass or edify us. Poetry Day honors this art, and below, we will tell you everything you need to know about it.

The duality of existence encapsulates the brevity of strife, Often called a dreamer, I envisioned what horizons that strayed afar looked like.

In June 2022, my friend Lucas and I had an unsettling experience while on a nighttime walk near his rural Welsh village. Lucas has lived there his whole life and knows the area well. The village has fewer than 100 residents, with houses spread out over several miles.
