Phantom House

In June 2022, my friend Lucas and I had an unsettling experience while on a nighttime walk near his rural Welsh village. Lucas has lived there his whole life and knows the area well. The village has fewer than 100 residents, with houses spread out over several miles.

One night, Lucas, our friend Reese, and I went for a walk down the country lanes after 10PM. Earlier, Lucas and I had been joking around in the old chapel near his house, where he helps care for the building. Less than 30 minutes later, we set out on our walk.

About a mile away, near an abandoned hotel site, Lucas pointed out a strange, dark house behind some trees. He had never noticed it before, despite walking here many times.

Lucas said the architecture looked European, unlike other homes in the area. We wanted to get closer but it was blocked off. When I shined my phone’s light on it, we all felt an ominous dread. It was eerily silent.

We continued on, unsettled. Sitting on a nearby stone wall, we tried to laugh it off. But then a single ring of the church bell carried over the field. It seemed odd at almost midnight. We all exchanged glances, realizing we felt we shouldn’t be there. We hurried back through the woods toward Lucas’ house.

The next day, in daylight, we discovered nothing but dirt and bushes where the house had appeared. Online satellite images also showed empty land. It made no sense. Some online research revealed two ley lines crossing near where we'd felt so unwelcome.

We have no explanation for the vanishing house or our intense feelings that night. The experience still disturbs me weeks later. I needed to share it, since our families don't believe us. I wonder if our joking in the chapel somehow triggered these bizarre events.

That night, we know we saw and felt something unnatural.
