childrens poetry
Nostalgia-inducing poetry inspired by our earliest favorites; from Dr. Seuss to Mother Goose, children’s poetry is all grown up.
Allhallows Eve
My entry into 'The Spooky Season Challenge' by Sheree Crawford - a VSS community challenge. Leaves crunch underfootAs shoes dash from door to doorNervous excitement fills the airBuckets filled with sweets galoreA crisp chill weighs heavy in the airAutumn's in full swingAs Halloween entices children And all the excitement it will bringJump scares catch them in their rushTo reach the next home participatingIn their costumes and their make-upGhosts and goblins they are fakingA night full of the macabreCelebrated in the streetsChildren dressed as monstersTo be encouraged on by sweetsTo participate you must embraceThe sinister and the scary The late-night campfire storiesThat leave you feeling waryThe only night when children seekThe dark and the obsceneFake bloodied bones and entrailsThe grotesque and the uncleanIt's all done in good spiritsOn the sacred Allhallows EveWhilst neighbours in competitionPull tricks out from up their sleevesThe atmosphere is rife with joy As children race along with tired feetParents trail along behind them Hoping tonight they'll surely sleepAs memories are slowly etchedInto their souls foreverFor when they were young and innocentThey went hunting ghouls together.
