Walking down the street in the rain, I saw a sight I could not explain. A duck in a raincoat, with an umbrella to boot, Waddling along and looking like a hoot.

Oh what a life it would be, To be a dog with a bone or a squirrel in a tree. No worries at all but sticks or nuts, Hiding in trees or sniffing butts.

World Poetry Day
World Poetry Day is an annual celebration of the power and beauty of poetry, observed on March 21st. This day was established by UNESCO in 1999 to recognize and encourage national, regional, and international poetry movements. Poetry is a unique form of literature that uses rhythm, imagery, and language to evoke emotions and ignite the imagination of the reader. Poems can take various forms, including sonnets, ballads, limericks, and haikus, and can be written in free verse or employ traditional meters and rhymes. The origins of poetry can be traced back thousands of years to ancient civilizations such as Babylon, with the earliest known poem being the “Epic of Gilgamesh.” Poetry has evolved and transformed throughout history, reflecting the changing times and cultural values of each era. Despite these changes, the fundamental purpose of poetry remains the same – to explore the complexities of the human condition and evoke emotions through the power of words. World Poetry Day is a celebration of this universal art form, bringing together people from all cultures and backgrounds under the shared values of creativity, expression, and imagination. UNESCO hopes to inspire the celebration of poetry worldwide, preserve endangered languages, and promote poetic expression through this day. The celebration encourages reading, writing, and teaching poetry and fosters the integration of other artistic mediums, such as music, dance, and painting, to create a truly interdisciplinary experience. This day honor's poets both past and present and revives the oral tradition of reciting poetry. UNESCO's decision to establish World Poetry Day was made during its 30th General Conference in Paris in 1999, and the first celebration was held on March 21, 2000. Since then, the day has become an annual event that celebrates the beauty and power of poetry, reminding us of the enduring relevance of this timeless art form.
