She Wears Her Betrayals with Pride

Each wound heavily earned

She walks the path of her future with her head held high,

Ecstatic when one decides to walk by her side,

A blessing to her heart but not mandatory,

As she has her own back, needing no other onside.

🗡️

All she asks of you is that you face her head on,

As she learned the hard way from a young age,

She’s wary of those who insist on walking behind,

Knowing they’re really not on the same page.

🗡️

Why’s that you may ask her, and you’ll hear her respond,

“I no longer turn my back on anyone,

As I have so many knives lodged deeply in my spine,

Placed there by those I thought loved me, after they’d had their fun.”

🗡️

Now she keeps her back free and clear,

Preferring to stand hard against the nearest wall,

Trust now a little less lenient,

Knowing so many are waiting for her to fall.

🗡️

Well for those watching, sheath your knives for awhile,

As you’ve missed your opportunity, her back is protected,

Caged in years of age old armour,

Bullet proof, knife proof and hard core erected.

🗡️

She’s not accessible to many because those lodged knives twist,

Reminding her of the betrayals of the cowards past,

Pain now her best friend and confidante,

Isolating her as a societal outcast.

🗡️

She’s happiest on the outskirts of human kind,

Hidden from view from the sadistic choices of yesteryear,

Each knife worn with pride, a lesson well learned,

And the pain is made welcome as it chases away her fear.

🗡️

She’s broken from her experiences which is her biggest blessing,

Because she cannot be tormented any more, she’s already abused,

She’s no longer taking orders, so don’t waste your time,

But feel free to ask although you know you will be refused.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

The worst kinda betrayal comes from our loved ones. And most of the time, it definitely would be our loved ones that backstab us. Loved your poem so much!

  • She's a battle angel with wings made from the knives others have stuck in her back, now transformed into power & grandeur.
