Shadowlands
Into The Gray
Tender velvet pedals crushed
Beneath a weight too hard to handle
Emotions broken, bent and pushed
Like shadowed shapes, exposed by candles
Dark and faceless figures merge
Over dappled specks of sunlight
Teardrops fall with anguished purge
The ugly tear of death’s delight
Shadowlands consume my mind
I’m prisoner of the gray
Out of the light, only to find
That the darkness knows my name
Veiled comfort from the mist
Wipes the sorrow from my eyes
As death marks it victims with a kiss
Absorbs the salty tears I cry
Peacefully still, I lie in wait
For the shadows to cross over
Caressing away the fear and hate
Like a patient, longing lover
Deep breaths I take, fill up my lungs
Until the daylight comes to rouse me
Deaths final song is finally sung
As peace comes to set me free

This weighs heavily upon me, my friend. My favorite line: "That the darkness knows my name".
